Has anyone used a 150-600 from Tamron or Sigma with an adapter on a Sony E mount and could comment on how it has worked for them?
Thanks,
Ron

Good question!
Not quiet what you ask but I used a Sigma 50-500 on a NEX-7 with an LA-EA4 adapter and it worked pretty well. I was doing bird photography.

I have a follow up... My A7R has no built in stabilization based on what I can find. So, if I was to purchase a 150-600 lens, knowing I need an adapter for any I buy, would I be smarter to purchase the Canon or Nikon version that comes with the stabilization in the lens or am I missing something?
Thanks

Whatever the answer is, just make sure that the IS lens function is engagable and all required data communicate both ways via the adapter linking your a7R to the lens.

Yes. I use a Sigma 150-600 C on a Sony A7R. It is a Nikon mount. I am pleasantly surprised with the results.

May we assume that its IS (aka VR) function operated accordingly?
http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-284558-1.htmlI asked basically the same question a few months back. Above is that thread. JimH123 has this setup (Tamron) and has done a couple of threads on it. I reckon you'll have to search for his stuff to find them.

This is a surprise answer. I was under the impression that the Nikon mount lenses did not have the autofocus/VR capability with the A6000 or other E-mounts. What adapter are you using? Metabones?

I have used the the Tamron lens with my A6000 and got good results

Please understand That I use it exclusively with a tripod and Gimbal. As far as I know, there is no reliable adapter that supports af, or Vr in a Nikon mount. I never claimed that I used it with VR. I understand that there are several in development. Jury is still out on those.

I don't have the 150-600 Tamron or Sigma zoom but I do have an old Sigma 170-500 and a new Sigma 150-500. Both work very well with Metabones III and IV adapters on the Sony A7 II and A7R II. Not so well on the Sony A7R and A7S; very slow autofocus.
I have also tried the above lenses with Commlite, Fotodiox and King adapters with Sony A7 bodies with not great success; no communication with lens, total camera hangs (requiring a restart), focus "chattering", lost focus, severe focus searching, etc. The King adapter, the cheapest, actually worked the best of the above three.
Yes, Metabones adapters are expensive; however, even though they may have a few foibles they do work the best of any I've tried plus the Metabones IV's firmware can be user updated; whereas the Metabones III has to sent in for updates. And Metabones has been fairly good about addressing issues and releasing updates; I've done two to this point.
Most of the adapters mentioned above work reasonably well with Canon lenses. The fact they don't work as well with third party lenses sort of convinces me third party lenses are not totally Canon compatible, or shortcuts have been taken in the design and manufacturing of their electronics/communication protocols.

Ah - that's a shame there's not a good adapter out there that connects the electronics since your lens has image stabilization if I remember correctly (getting to be a rare thing nowadays). Thanks for correcting me on how you were using it.

Yes, I have the Tamron 150-600 and it focuses about as fast and as accurate with my A6000 and LA-EA4 adapter as I can see happening with my Sony A99 and A77ii. I tend to not use that lens with the A6000 just because there is no actual advantage when using that big lens compared to using a full size body. And I tend to use it with a Gimbal Mount, thus no pressing reason to use the smaller A6000 body.

If I'm not mistaken, the stabilization built into these lens is dependent upon the instructions from their OEM paired cameras. Therefor, there can be no stabilization with a different brand camera!
