I had one of the best days yesterday because the action was non stop with many of my favorite little birds. I have a lot of pictures of most of these birds already, but I got some stunning flight shots of the Vermillion Flycatcher that was only possible since I got my 7D Mark II with the most advanced focus system today. I just turn on all the focus points invoke Case 5 for focusing on little birds, and if I can get the bird in frame, it will focus on it if there aren't backgrounds that will distract from the focus.

Nice shots, lived in Mission Viejo for seven years.

Hi Jeep Daddy,
Great shots! I'm always trying to improve my BIF.
I go to the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary often, ( live 15 minutes away). Including a hummingbird shot. Always looking for company.

Nice series! Especially like the berry-munching shots!
Fantastic series of bird shots. I have loved the Cedar Waxwings ever since I saw my first photo here on UHH. Cheers.
The focusing system on the Canon 7d mk 2 is just stunning, I got mine last week. Only one problem, I am getting too many keepers, going to need more external hard drive space. gereat images of the Waxwing
Man what a day you had! All superb captures...were these handheld? I see focal length of 700mm which is amazing with the detail.
What lens were you using ? With the 7d mk2 ?

I was using the older model of 300mm f/2.8 with a doubler for 600mm focal length. I was hand holding for all my shots. I guess if you factor in the 1.6 crop factor I'm shooting at about 960mm. A few of the images that I posted were from a day or two before when I was using my 500mm f/4 with a 1.4x teleconverter.
I have a 500mm f/4 lens but decided to use this one since I was showing a friend how to use this setup since this is what she was using and she's new to this kind of thing. But she does have the new Mark II 300mm lens. I can't see any difference but the new lens is almost a pound lighter.
Incredible variety for a one-day trip! I'll add the Sanctuary to my bucket list for my next California trip.

It wasn't really a trip. I live 1/2 hour from there and shoot there at least once a month of so. It just happened to be a very productive day yesterday. As I just said in another reply, a few of the images were from a day or two before at a location close to there.
Still incredible shots! With our rainy weather here, going to my neighborhood bar is a trip, 5 miles to downtown is traveling, and 30 miles to our wildlife refuge is on my safari bucket list. :)
