Dave,
Great tonal range. Wonderful focus, and nice composition. The position of the sorcerer is quite nice. The shadow he casts leads one from the lower left corner through and implied diagonal line that passes through his hips, then outstretched arm, and terminates at the source of light.

This leads the viewers eyes back to the illuminated clouds which frame the main subject of the photograph. Very nicely done.

Not sure you can learn much from me.....but I do have an opinion.

I concur with Bob. I also feel there is too much dark space on the right that doesn’t really add anything to the photo. Try cropping by dragging the lower right corner to just the top of the “D” in your signature, I think it would accentuate the diagonal Bob refers to. Really good job Mr. Chinn.

Great creative image, very engaging with strong compositional line from lower left to upper right. A slight crop wouldn't hurt, as others have offered, but it's a matter of preference as to how much "black space" you want in it as it is not really unbalanced as is.

Like the way you've handled the light and shadow here, especially, as that is what guides me through the image and keeps me looking.

Minor quibbles - I wish you'd included a downloadable larger version so we could see more detail, and I'm not a big fan of the way the watermark pulls my eye away from the real image and down into that dark corner. Those are artist's decisions though, and we respect them. Glad to have you on board here! Keep sharing!

PS - I'd really like to know more about how you did this if you're willing to share your process...

Apparently I'm easy to please 'cause I can't find one thing I'd like to see changed in this composition. Very, very well done.

Thank you Bob for the critique. I really appreciate the fact you were so thorough. Looking at this over and over I suppose I should have reversed the light source. Thanks again it is very helpful.

Thank you Frank !!! I do tend to agree with the crop and I have since done that and will repost. I do appreciate your comments/opinion.

Thank you, minniev !!! I appreciate your interest and comments. The process was rather simple for the fact he was already on a ledge. I just added a more dramatic sky and the sparks from his finger tips which was a lightning strike that I caught by accident and of course converted to b&w. Here is the cropped downloadable version. Also I am posting a front view. Thanks again !!!

Hey Dave, welcome to the group and thank you for sharing!

On the technical side, I'm confused why the back of his robe is lit, but am putting it to a reflection in a cloud behind him and can accept that.

From the arcane, I want to see more, literally more. When I look at the image I see a great sorcerer who's come to the top of a hill to call power. With arms outstretched he gathers the strength in his left while he calls for more in his right. And this is where I get lost.

I follow his outstretched right arm to the blinding source of power, and that works, but then I follow the staff up and almost out of the frame, then out. The staff points the way, and the moment is over.

The sorcerer is calling to the sky, so give him more sky. Let us see the source of power and revel in what we've found. More sky please!

Interestingly though, I like the front shot the way it is as we focus on his face, where the back leads us up and out. The light on the front of his robes confuses me, but again I give that to a reflecting sky and can accept it.
- As a side, with the lightning you have the sorcerer and without Moses meeting God on Mount Sinai!

More sky please!

I hope this helps and thank you again for sharing! Happy Holidays! S-

Thank you, Steve !!! I agree with everything you have said. The highlight on the robe in both pictures is a reflection. I should pay more attention to my light source. More sky? Yes, there should be for sure. I really appreciate you pointing out those two important factors. I will make an attempt to make corrections and repost. Happy Holidays to you as well.

Thank you Frank !!! Isn't amazing what ones imaginable eye can see that others can't? Thanks for pointing that out.
