He wanted this warm patch of sunlight, and I wanted to take his picture... lol.
Not the best photos, but I just use a Canon Powershot A1100. He didn't want to let me get closer than about 3 feet, so I was trying the digital zoom.

Dont ever be tempted to use digital zoom, results are never good, go to the limit of your optical zoom range but no further. I am not trashing your photos but just offering my two cents from my own experience.

I like your pics, and agree getting close can be a problem. I had an experience last summer. The butterfly was on my left hand and the camera was in my right. After the photo shoot, I had to encourage it onto a leaf. Maybe it understood that I had rescued it from the spider webs.
A Butterfly in Hand is worth ...
