'Belay that order Mr. Hornblower.........
.....and get that tops'l down before you run us onto The Needles'. The young Horatio.....oops, got carried away there for a moment! Must be Dave's mention of my hero in an earlier post. Anyway, this is Tenacious setting-out from Swanage on a sail training exercise. A customer called to say he was sitting on the seafront watching her leave in full sail, so I dropped everything in the hope of getting the shot I've been waiting so long for but, as can see, she wasn't exactly in 'full' sail! However, I was lucky with the sky, so made the most of it. Your critique is gratefully received.

The whole scene seems quite painterly in a good way if that was your intent magneto man. However for me the non color conforming white takes the color cast mood away for me. The other white sailboat is too small to be anything but a distraction to zoom in on unless thats what you wanted to happen.
I love the drama! Great mood and a memorable artistic creation.
Dislike the white speck in distance.
Yes, I was after the painted look Frank, and couldn't make my mind up on the white. Viewed larger the tiny sailboat looked acceptable, but as downloaded here, it's an indistinguishable blob that will have to go. Thanks for contributing, I do appreciate it.

Thanks Linda - the speck will be attended to!

Did you really capture this image or is it a copy from a museum? Seriously, I like the softness. Very impressionistic. Deal with the little white sail and slap a few brush strokes in it and print it on canvas and who would know its a photo. Excellent work.
When I downloaded it and enlarged it just like Frank I too got the impression of having a painting quality about it. Love the soft tones.

I like it! It's dramatic in a very soft, subtly, and muted way. I really like the highlights on the sail. I agree that the white speck (second boat) detracts from the over-all impact of the photo. It's too close to the main subject to crop it out, so i suggest you sink it.
I used Topax Impressions on this one - a preset plus some adjustments to taste and got what I was after. I'll deal with the little boat before printing! Many thanks for commenting.

I like the dramatic toning. It's very effective. I also like the small sailboat. It balances the scene and adds a second point of interest to the image. I think without it that negative space would be too large. Just MHO.
Thank you for commenting AzPicLady, perhaps I should make the little boat a bit bigger so that's it's more identifiable?
