We had an affair at a local restaurant and two of the attendees purchased gift cards at that restaurant at that time for us.
Several weeks later we went back to that restaurant to use the gift cards and the waiter told us the cards were worth $25 each.
We knew the people who had given us the cards (family) and later discovered that the cars were purchased for $50 and $100.
We managed to get the ticket for one of the cards from the relative, called the restaurant and after much nashing of teeth ( and many many lies)
did get a $100 credit but still ended up $50 behind. We will never return to that restaurant, of coarse, and believe the fraud went up the chain of
command to the owner.

Since I dont want to get my legs broken, will pass on ID of the restaurant.. Gift Card Scam

No restaurant name then your post has absolutely no value.

OK, I understand your position. Can we narrow it down to which of the 5 NY burroughs to be fair to lots of eateries?

I prefer to give & recieve $$4 cash. Gift cards even when legit are more hassel there's always a balance left which may be used only in specific places. Thanks for the reminder, tis the season.

suffolk, but really just something to be aware of.... you do not know the value of a gift card and should.... and the ref to the mafia was unfair, nassau/ suffolk has an irish mafia that makes the italian mafia look like kids and the manager was irish.. GBG! the food was good... let the buyer beware, and I would avoid gift cards in the future or at least give them with the rcpt but that negates the really value of the card...sigh..

The giftee should be made aware of the amount on the card. If they order a meal and wine, come up short, there goes their legs.

there are zillions of frauds, this is just the latest one to cross my path..
....the local soda store lost my business when the items marked on sale somehow did not
make it (the sale price) into their computer..
the local (Islip Terace) pharmacy lost my businesss when on too many occasions I caught them in what
I call "creative accounting" at the cash resister. Later they were the subject of a clip on the local tv news, and even after that in a casual conversation with a neighbor she mentioned short count on
Rx pills. [how many of us count the Rx pills,? think what they cost, then you will] They are now closed Sundays, perhaps to be closed 7 days a week, who knows..
My sister worked for A&P in Green Acres and they played a game called "over ring"...
Fraud is everywhere, just keep your eyes open..

Where I live, the local Super 1 grocery store will give you the item free, if at the cash register, the price is wrong and you prove their mistake.
