Tonight, I took pictures at a girl's softball game and the rule of the field was that the home team can't be photographed! It was a strict Muslim run charter school and they do not want their students photographed and the parents are very adamant about it. I was told either to crop them out of the picture or show their backs if I published any of the pictures. It was really hard to keep them out of the picture.

At the rate we are going some day in the not to distant future. we'll all be living under their laws, by trying to be P.C. we are losing our own freedoms.

My suggestion would be for them to move their softball game indoors to a private environment. Or move it to Iran, or Egypt, etc.

Out of curiosity, was this private property (private school), or unified school district property (charter school)? I can understand special rules on private property, but rented public school property (such as a charter school) was purchased by tax payers of that school district.

Charter School have the same rights as any other school to set up their own rules of conduct and and they own the property. if you don't obey the rules, you will be asked to leave and if you refuse, the local Police will ask you to leave or escort you off grounds. It made for an interesting day.

What was interesting, a Dad was videoing his daughter who played shortstop. He could only video his daughter. He said it was very difficult for him to video her, but he followed the rules. He said getting her at bat was easy but playing the field was dam near impossible!

some of the allowed pictures. The ones I feel sorry for were the girls on the home team, I got some awesome shots of them making diving catches, sliding into base but they will never see the light of day and the AD said don't even send them to the school since the Principal would blow a gasket.

Racist? What racist? I think there are a couple of people posting here that need to get a better grip on their thinking and understanding of some rather simple concepts!

I see nothing posted here that can be called "racist", by any reasonable thinking. . .ignorant and/or stupid maybe, but certainly not racist.

I agree.

Whether we like their rules or not...it's their house so we abide by their rules...that's just common sense.

I DO object to them imposing Sharia on non Muslims but that's not what this is about...this is basic respect for them on their property.

People tend to assume that 'cultural differences' don't apply to their own culture. Cite 'ritual genital mutilation', for example, and most will think of unspeakable mutilations carried out on little girls -- forgetting that circumcision is, in fact, 'ritual genital mutilation'. When it comes to politics and religion, there is even less awareness of other possibilities.

Quite honestly, I don't think the OP's post has much to do with Islam. It's just early 21st century paranoia. Today, people in the UK and USA are afraid of photographers stealing their souls (or worse still, their children's souls), in a way you don't see in most countries.

Cheers,

R.

Why even attend the game and why do you like to take their pictures? I would not give them the light of day.
