I need a new monitor. No, I want a new monitor. I want a 24 or 27 inches, but don't want to spend a lot. Remember this is a want not a need, but I know you guys can come up with something. Oh yes, I want to keep the price under $300.00. Can you meet the challenge.......thanks
I use a 27" HDTV, it is cheaper and has a perfect picture. I was looking for a 4K but the smallest anyone makes is 42" which is too big to be three feet in front of your face.

I use a Samsung 23 inch HDTV that use to be in the bedroom. Works great. This time of the year HDTVs can be bought really cheap. Only suggestion would be to stay away from the cheap off brands that many stores are selling.

if this is going to be used for photo editing - save your money. Most displays at this price point are 6 bit and do not cover sRGB color gamut, the smallest for photo use. Dell does have a 27" that with a rebate will cost $450 - it's an 8 bit display, 10 or 12 bit LUT and covers 99% sRGB. That would be a good entry level display for photo editing.
The one you described is best used for general purposes.

Another case of "You get what you pay for!" I wanted a wider color gamut so I purchased a NEC (billion colors) 24" and love it. It cost $800 at the time, but most wide gamut monitors cost well over $1000 to $3000.

I recently purchased a 24" Dell for a pretty good price from Newegg. It's not the highest quality, but with some adjustments with a Spyder Pro 4, it's really not bad. Don't remember exactly what I paid, but it was less than your budget. The ones designed for photo work are the best as you do get what you pay for, but there are more and more pretty good monitors out there every day. Stay away from the unknown brands and you'll most likely be happy. And, calibrate it! Best of luck.

Good advice. Check for other "best" lists, too. If a monitor is at or near the top on several lists, that's a good sign.
Just out of curiosity, I just checked the date on my Dell monitor - 2008.

Acer 27". Less than $200 everywhere - Best Buy, Staples, Sam's, WalMart, Costco, OfficeMax or whoever they are now - everywhere. No need to order online. I've been using Acers for years and I don't see that I'll ever change to anything else unless Apple Retina monitors get down in this price range - but that will be long after pigs learn how to fly and do 360 degree trick flips in the air.
Yes, I got another monitor. I went with a dell that was on sale for Xmas and after. Only 24 inches, buy with my great big printer and all the odds and ends it fits just right. It has enough bells and whistles for me, too.
