I ordered 8x10 and 11x14 prints for Christmas a few weeks ago and the cropping did not come out quite how I wanted it. Is there a calculator that I can download, or a site where I can easily enter the paper size and either the width or the height of my file and get the correct dimensions? I have a formula that works, but it is a pain! And free downloads or sites are preferred if there are any. Thank you!

The first one on the list does everything I was looking for. My next order will be much easier, thanks again!

I don't know what software you are using, but most allow you to set the dimensions in your crop tool. Set it for inches, crop to the paper size and make sure the resolution is high enough. The "photo lab" should be able to tell you the optimum resolution for their equipment.

If you camera doesn't produce large enough file sizes, there is software that can help.

on1 Perfect reSize (formerly Genuine Fractals) does a pretty good job. Do your sharpening after all other adjustments are finished.

Did you crop the print for an 8x10 and an 11x14 before you uploaded and ordered?

I don't know what software you are using, but most... (show quote)

I mainly use View NX2 for my D610's software editing. I will look and see if there is a setting on it. The ordered prints have all turned out beautifully so far, much better than my old Brother printer does. I need to learn how to do my own printing on a real, up to date printer one of these days. Thank you! And I will keep file sizes in mind for future use.

Yes and no. I got most of them right and one wrong and the wrong one ended up not being exactly what I wanted. I keep learning, though!

View NX is very basic, but does offer 8x10 in the drop down where you select crop.

The better news is that Nikon now provides a "Free", more advanced, downloadable software solution. Capture NX-D lets you choose any size crop, so you can match it to the size you want.

This suggestion is pretty boring -- I had been using the Canon utility that came with the Canon PP 100 to print, and it was a pain to get 13x19 from FF -- lots of waste & cutting. The other day I printed 7 images for gifts direct from NX View 2 and they were right the first time -- a minimal border all around for the frame. Nothing missing from the image that I cared about (to crop to the format / paper) and EASY!

Bill, you beat me to it! Hi, Norm!

I just looked and found that, thank you! Too bad they don't have 11 x 14 in there.
And yes, I need to move into a better editing program some day. But so far, for what I do, View NX2 has been doing a good job and I am very used to it... maybe stuck in a rut is a better term. ;)

Hi Quixdraw! I am all for easy. Taking pictures is fun, editing can turn into a chore sometimes.
