The mosquitoes are really cramping my shooting style these days. I try to shoot and they attack in hordes. It's awful.

Well I got rid of the mosquitoes, the wind was blowing so hard that it also kicked up the waves and I could not get any good shots on the boat.

The sunrise looked lousy this morning and the crescent moon was to far away last night at sunset to be seen in the picture.
Such is life.

Sometimes the magic works. Sometimes, it doesn't.

I am in great health being 55 but as far as dying? I don't mind dying...I just don't want to be there when it happens.

If there are some photographers that take shots of bands. Lets talk.

Many times I cover bar bands and "county fair" performers.

I'm looking for someone how will exchange a shot here and there and we can talk over things.

Did you know Jobs died yesterday?

In a way, I guess it makes your quote all the more poignant.

No, I didn't know. The end of an era.

Indeed. And he just barely retired. Maybe it was the work that was keeping him alive.

Gita, I am so sorry to hear this! That would break my heart! I started DSLR photography with a Canon Xti, which used compact flash cards. I now have a Canon T1i, and it uses regular SD cards. It's not the newest or flashiest on the market, but I like it.

If you're going to buy a new camera, your best bet is probably to go to dealsucker.com, icemonkey.com, or some of the other "deal of the day" type sites and buy new ones for the new camera. Tigerdirect.com often has memory cards of various types on sale very reasonably too.

As far as lenses, i think everyone has their favorites and what suits me might not work well for you at all. Try asking friends who have DSLRs if you can "play" with theirs for a few minutes, trying the lenses they have, or go to retail outlets and see if they have demo lenses you can experiment with in store.

Honestly, I've read the books and talked to many photographers, and I still find myself using my 70X300 mm for almost everything and I seem to get, I think, pretty versatile and good quality pics. I personally think that you use the lens you are most comfortable with and adjust your shooting technique to suit it, although I do know people who carry around an entire suitcase full of lenses and who seem to spend as much time changing them as they do shooting.
