Question about upgrading from Nikon d7100 to Nikon d750

Most of my work is wild life. I have a friend in the restaurant business who allows me to display my work for sale. I am satisfied with the whistles and bells on the 7100 but looking for better image quality. I have one lens a Nikkor DX 18-300. If I decide to go to the d750 I will also upgrade the lens to a FX 80-400.
Finally to my question; would the increase in image quality be significant enough to warrant the money spent. B&H has the camera for 1900 and the lens for 2300 for total of 4200. I could probably sell my current outfit for 1500 or so; leaving an expenditure of 2700.

I would appreciate what you have to say.

Thanks in advance.

Get a refurb D610; hold off on buying anything else.

You will be very happy with an 80-400 attached to a 750. It will make a significant difference.

I have the 80-400 and a D810. The image quality is very good.
But I shot a D7100 last week using a Sigma 150 macro and
The image quality was also very good. I think one could argue
That buying a Nikkor 300mm f4 might give you a major
Leap in IQ for wildlife photography for less money than
The D750 + 80-400.

You may be correct. Perhaps the relevant decision for the OP has to do with whether to go full frame or stick with the 7100.
I am impressed with the 80-400 on an 800E.

Doubt you can get that for the 7100 and 18-300mm.

The D750 will give little better image quality but it's hard to say if it would be significant for you. The D750 is an all around better camera. Though the D7100 has more lens available.

I was thinking about that to. When ever I see a post where someone it thinking of upgrading a camera I ask him/her what is it doing or not doing that makes you want to upgrade. I go on and say something like maybe what you should upgrade is your glass. Maybe I should stand in front of a mirror and tell myself that and save some money. But then ......

Thanks for the thought.

I looked on Amazon and they have that camera and lens and a bunch of junk in a bundle for a little better than 1700; mine would come junk free.

I only use one lens and it has to be my everything lens. The only other shooting I do is of the grand kids usually in low light. I sit across the room and shoot candid shots and once in a while a posed portrait shot, but not often.

I read drpreview on it when it came out but I haven't read anything since. Thanks for the tip, he thinks it's a good camera to.

I'm assuming you'll use eBay. You need to look at items which have actually sold recently, not at the asking prices. And remember that eBay and PayPal fees will be 12.9% of your gross sale price including any shipping fees you collect from the buyer. Reviewing recent eBay sales, I think you'll clear a little less than $1000.

Do not sell the 7100. If you're shooting wildlife, you won't need the extraneous information provided by the D750 since the wildlife would generally be in the center of the frame. I seen nothing wrong with a 24mp crop image. Put the 80-400mm lens on it and you get a field of view of 60-600mm, just perfect for wildlife.

My opinion. Its a brilliant camera. I borrowed one from a mate and would buy one in a heartbeat . . . if I had the dosh :)
