After a lot of research before getting a new camera, going back and forth between DSLR and mirrorless, D7200 or A6000' Imthink I have pretty much decided on the D7200. So the question comes up, which lens? I'd rather not have the hassle of having to carry a bunch of lenses around and do changes in the field, so an "everything" lens seems to be in order. The two that I'm looking at are the Nikon 16--140 and the 16--300. How good are these lenses, and is the larger lens too big and heavy to carry around? Is the 16--300 a sharp lens throughout its zoom range?

I think you mean the 18-140 & the 18-300. The only 16-300 I know about says Tamron on it.

Yes, typo on my part. Those are the ones.

Ignoring the mistakes in the lenses, I would recommend the 18 - 140. I have and use the Nikjon 18-140 as a walk around lens and am very happy with it. I also have a Nikon 55-300 which I do use on occasion (e.g. birding, or wildlife) and it does a good job.
Frankly, the 18-140 has taken the role of a general purpose lens, while the 55-300 is now a special purpose lens.
My 18-55 lens has be relegated to a "do I really need this" lens!
The 18--140 is looking better and better.

Moo. Now there is a special on a D750 with a 18-140 that would cost less than a D7200 and a 18-140

Perhaps you could enlighten us as to WHERE this wonderful, obviously grey market, bargain can be had?
I have had the tamron 24-300 and 18-270. Size and weight were ok, but was not pleased with the IQ. Have had the Nikon 18-140 for about 2 years and it lives on my D7000. The IQ is excellent. My favorite lens.

So far, good stuff, and the 18--140 seems to be a clear winner here. But what about the 18--300? No one's mentioned that one. I'm thinking that one would cover the whole spectrum, but if it's not that great a performer, I wouldn't be above picking up something like a good, sharp 70--300 lens.
