I Cancelled My XM Subscription

Looking at my credit card online this morning, I saw that XM charged me over $136 for another year. I have a lifetime subscription on my car radio, so I decided to give up the subscription on the radio in the house. They raise the price and eliminate channels.

Looking for alternatives online, I saw that someone is using Roku for his music. Is there a way to do that without using a TV? I had the XM radio hooked up to an FM transmitter so it broadcasts all around the property. I'd like to do the same without using XM.

I can't use my cell phone because it would cost a fortune in data charges. I can listen to Pandora for free on my computer, but I want to avoid monthly charges. My FM stations are very limited here.

Just wait about a month and XM will come crawling back to you with a 1/2 price offer.

Hey Jerry. I get Sirius radio for 30 bucks for 6 months. BUT you have to make sure that you call just before your subscription is up to let them know that you will not renew at the top price. they don't want to lose subscribers. So they drop their pants for you. Wish I could get AT&T Uverse to do that. I HATE Uverse. the price doesn;t just go up once a year...IT GOES UP EVERY MONTH!!!

If you like Pandora you can build up a favorite artists list of stations and then let Pandora shuffle your personal favorites. I run mine off a Sony BluRay for Free and Ads are not much of a problem. I think its better than FM radio. Tom

The problem with accepting a "better offer" is that you have to call and speak to someone to cancel. I was lucky this time, but in the past, they offered all sorts of deals and really dragged it out.

I have Pandora on my computer with several stations. How do you run it off the Sony BluRay? I have a DVD and BluRay player, but I don't see any way to get online music into them.

Call me a fuddy duddy and reactionary but I have a whole bookshelf of these things called CDs. Two stereo systems (old rig went in the family room where I hang out , the home theater setup in the living room), a few portable players. A player in the car and I use my computer to make mixed CDs of various artists, genres etc for use in the car.

I just found a couple I burned in 2002 that I threw into the car to re listen just a few days ago. And of course my "Twisted Christmas" collection I get out every year.

Sony has a Pandora link under music and I think you sign on using the blu-ray remote and access your internet Pandora account. The good thing is you can play your music on your home theater/music system. You play Pandora stations with your favorites not your own digital music files.

I don't know what XM is but here in the UK all radio stations are free and do no need a subscription.
TV is different though you are obliged by law to pay £145.50 for colour TV or £49 for black and white, this applies to all TV channels including BBC.
There are however lots of exceptions, people who live in care homes, or aged over 74 do not pay any thing. One other group of people get 50% off if they are registered blind !!!

Does the blind discount apply to both color and black and white TV's?

I received a notice last month that my renewal would be over $200. I called and told them I wanted to cancel because I simply couldn't afford that much for a car radio. They lowered the cost to under $100, so I took it. Saving over $100 is worth a phone call, I think.

I am about to give up XM radio. I signed up because there are fewer and fewer classical music FM stations any more. But XM dropped one of their two classical stations. Some of their Pop stations don't just play the music but have DJ's which - even without advertisements - makes them just as annoying to listen to as an AM station. Why pay for that? My car radio has Bluetooth and I have my favorite music on my iPhone so I can play that when in the car. So - maybe it's time for XM to go...
