That's pretty good! Good texture, sharpness and tonal range... nice job. If I had to say anything... maybe the spectral highlight under the color could go away... and a few lint spots on the hat. Otherwise... looks great to me.

I like it. It draws my eye in. It definitely does speak "character" to me.

But staring at it a few moments, there is something that I noticed, the lens of his glasses on the viewers right, a black shape sort of a half moon, just above Richards left ear.

Terrific study. Lighting is right on and the expression is timeless.

dsp,

Nice composition and treatment. Does draw me in. The problem I have is with the glasses on the left side of the
characters head. Looks like a half moon shape.
Overall it was well done.

Hi Richard,
As a character study this shows me a man, good in front of the camera, so maybe comfortable with you, who has lived through a few decades, witness to a few changes in attitude and opinion, slightly rebellious with his 'goatee', but well maintained as are his clothes, stiff straight collar, but no tie, slightly flamboyant with that hat, clean shaven shows self care and pride, vest, shows age, poker face seems to suggest he could smile with the right sense of humour. To get all this you have done well indeed, even if my assessment is wrong.
Photographically this is all about that face, there are no distractions, good composition, and not masterful, but good lighting, looks like single light, but I find it better from a distance, seems a little soft. I would have liked to see those eyes a lot more in focus, because to me that is where more story is. I'm not sure whether he has strong lens' in his glasses, or it is in the processing, but they seem to distort the left side of his face, giving that black half moon. However, good work, I like it. Keep up the good work.

Popped on to the Hog, saw your reply on the backdrop, thought I’d check to see if you posted anything recently and boom!!! Richard was staring right back at me!

Kid of missed the sweat band and gym clothes.

He looks good in the hat! I like the lighting. B&W and black background works really well for me.

The hardest thing for me in portraiture is getting the subject to relax and be natural. You captured it! Richard’s expression is so him.

Others have mentioned a couple of minor things, so no need to repeat those.

Great job!!! Thanks for sharing!

Richard looks great for all the reasons others mentioned. I think I prefer a vertical crop, but that is personal preference. Don't you hate it when glasses glare or worse distort the face in some areas? It is hard to see during the shoot. It is a great portrait. I would be zoomed in recreating the face where that half moon is tying to make it go away, but it never looks quite right.

Love it. Great composite and I think the horizontal crop is perfect, It fits.

I would clone out the bright spot under the collar and with some detail work, it is possible to fix that lens distortion.

I agree.
I would also knock down the specular highlight off the lower lip.

Nice portrait work. It's got mood.
