Advice on macro tripod

I have a ball head and focus rail on order. My normal tripod is a big pan head deal I have had forever and can't remember how I came by it....... old age...

I want to get something stable to hang my D90 and Kiron 105 on for macro shots. I have seen tripods with bottom slung mounts and I doubt I could get myself down into position. What to you think of Bauer tripods? they seem to be reasonable and sturdy on the used eBay market. articulated? JB

I have been looking at this one.

Dolica AX620B100 Professional Tripod. The legs can be adjusted and locked in three positions to get down low and the center column can be reversed to under sling the camera. Do any of you use these techniques to get down near ground level for you shots? What to you use.

Amazon has the most pictures of it's flexibility.

I am curious what you all think of this $40. tripod.

Not sure I'd trust a few thousand dollars worth of camera and lens to a $40 tripod. Saying that, the 'pod has a lot of good reviews on Amazon. But I'd also check out the bad reviews.

And, worse comes to worse, it's only $40.

I have the Dolica and it is surprisingly sturdy the ball head holds my K-5 and 105mm macro on tubes fine no more than I use a tripod I could not see spending a whole lot of money so I decided to chance the 40 bucks got mine from Adorama and I love it. Most of the negative reviews are people complaining that it does not feel as good as ones that cost 100's of dollars have not seen any reviews about it not doing what it is supposed to do or in in failing and causing damage.
