For those of you who remember back to their youth in 1977, Pink Floyd released their album, 'Animals.' The Album cover featured the Battersea Power Station, an iconic building on the banks of the Thames, London. The Power Station has, sadly, been converted into trendy flats ( I think it is called progress) but thankfully the two huge old cranes that used to unload the fuel for the power station are still there, quietly rusting away. IMO they are absolutely majestic.

What unique and photogenic subjects! The age and rust (and even a bit of menacing feel) against the pastel, sleek buildings is compelling. The bit of green plant growth is fascinating.

Do you have other perspectives or a wider view? I wonder if it's possible to retain their structure, beauty and size with a little more context?

Hope you don’t mind me posting an unfinished image of a shot I had that came to mind when I looked at this. I too share your feelings of grandness of theses marvels. My shot does not even come close to showing their place in the world as yours.

I remember the album very well Peter. The pig floating through the two chimneys of the power station. A 17 minute song called Dogs. Listened to until it wore out with my hippy buddies smoking dope and dropping acid. Wonderful times.
The cranes are something else just a shame there is no way to shoot them without the busy background.
Nice post

Yup our youth seems to have been very similar. And you are right about the background, but in London, especially besides the Thames, its just buildings and high rise everywhere, no way to get a clear background. But thats the way it goes sometimes.
