I was working on the roof of some buildings yesterday, and noticed a rainbow around the sun, so quickly drove home and grabbed my camera and took a few shots around the area. Hope you enjoy them!

Hi DLMorris, those are some very cool shots.
What equipment and settings did you use???
Craig
Thanks Craig! I used a Canon 60Da, about 100 ISO, on the AV setting, and just whatever exposure seemed to give the best results. I usually set the exposure composition two or so stops down in order to underexpose, then make whatever adjustments needed in PP. The one with the brightest rainbow was WAY underexposed, (by accident) but I was able to bring out the image anyway, and was rather pleased with it. Mostly I shoot, look at the screen, make whatever adjustments needed, and shoot again till I get it right.... The lens is a Tamron 16-300. The images are uncropped..

OK no wonder the red is more vivid than the blues.
You used the Camera I'm lusting after the 60Da. I have heard the Tamron 16-300 is a good Lens???
And one more request can you repost the pics and check the little box "Store Original"???
For 2 reasons, 1 the pictures look 1000% better in Download and 2 we can all use EXIF to see all the data of the shots.
Thank you for putting up with me.
Craig
Ok, I'll try to post them again. The 16-300 isn't the sharpest lens in the box, but a good day-to-day carry around, and the one I use almost exclusively.
I was hoping to get the "chemtrail" within the circle, showing it also as part of the reinbow, demonstrating that is made of the same stuff the clouds are made of, but by the time I got home and grabbed the camera, it had moved away... Still trying to get that shot..
Hope the EXF (?) data comes through. I save the pictures to my IPad, then send them on...

They all turned out really nice in Download DL. No EXIF info but that's ok. It happens when you send them like that.
I assume that Av is Auto Exposure???
And they shot at 1/250 sec???
Craig
Av is apature priority, so I set the ap. to 11 and 1/1250 sec on the first one, F-9 at 1/2000 sec on the second one, and I'm not sure on number 3, because I took several. Either F-9 and 1/3200 sec, or F-7.1 and 1/8000 sec. I had to stop the lens way down to keep from maxing out on the exposure. My camera goes to a max of 1/8000 sec, so when I see that on the screen, I change something to make sure I still have control of the exposure.

This phenomena is called a circular halo or more commonly a sun dog. The ring is caused by sunlight passing through ice crystals in cirrus clouds within the Earth's atmosphere. The crystals bend direct sunlight, projecting it elsewhere into the sky, and at an angle of 22 degrees a halo can be seen around the sun.
