Friends,
MetLife Stadium allows cameras both fixed and video into the Stadium *if* the lens is 6" or less. I am attending a game tomorrow with my Nikon D800 and I have a 80-400 Nikkor lens that measures 6.7" in length. It's about 6.2" from the body to the end of the lens with no filter or cap. Do you think they will let me in with the slightly longer length? I was given a ticket to the Hertz Presidential Suite and would like to get some shots of the game from the Suite. Any suggestions or comments?
The entrance area for the suites is different than the normal gate entrances. Our company had a suite through last season and I was never stopped for bringing in a longer lens. Most times I mounted my 35 on camera the long lens was loose.
I've never heard of them tsking out a ruler to measure a lens -- I'm sure it'd so people don't bring 500-600 that are 15-18" long and would extend into other people's space. Attendees being in a suite would not come under the same scrutiny as the folks out in the stadium. To make sure I would call the stadium and ask:

Call ahead and talk to someone in management and explain what you need. All he / she can do is say no. Other than that, I don't know. I did all of my photography there with another photographer that had press passes, so you may need to "find or make a friend" that has access. Given the nature of todays politics, that may be difficult. Everybody is wary of everybody else and todays photographer may be looking for sites for tomorrows IED or sharpshooter site. Security is very touchy right now about making exceptions and then having to come back later and explain them when and if something goes wrong. My best advice is that if you ask and they say no, then work within the rules they give you. Down the road, that contact that you made (that told you no today) may pay dividends tomorrow.

My Nikkor 28~300 measures 5 inches from camera front to end of lens.

Just called they told me NO the rules are "hard and fast" on that.. hmm
I'm surprised and disappointed
I don't own a xx-300 :( I guess I will bring my 105 2.8 and carry a 1.7" teleconverter. That will bring me up to 178.5mm Crap!

Well, Rent a crop sensor camera and use a 300mm lens. The Nikon D7100 on normal crop is 1.5 times 300 which would be roughly 450 or you could go to the double and it would be similar to 600mm. You could also put your full frame camera into "crop" mode and get the 1.5 effect. Both are accomplishing the same "effect". I realize that this is not the same but I am trying to work around the problem with available solutions.

Take a look at the P900, under 6" and 2000mm zoom. Take it anywhere, no restrictions.
What if you bring 2 lenses. The shorter one on the camera and the longer one loose, if you're stopped return the longer one to the car.

That's the problem with asking. You're putting someone on the spot, asking if he will let you break the rules. Still, it's good to know ahead of time, rather than being turned away.
Next time, how about bringing a shorter lens with a 1.4 or 2.0 extender?
Sun Life, Miami Dolphin stadium has a 6" rule also. I go in to the club level using the standard admission gate and carry my Nikon D810 with the 80-400 mounted on it with no problems this year. I usually get a few "nice camera" comments at the gate.
