I agree- too much time between shots. I am also learning star trails. I set up the camera to 16mm, f2.8, 30 sec. and continuos shooting. Then I hit the remote button and lock in the button. The camera keeps continuous shooting until I unlock the button. Star stacker then does the rest nicely. Get away from the main road and find a little used side road. I found a small park on a lightly used road near my in Bucks County. It is about as dark as be found in the North-east. Good luck! Which reminds my- NO noise reduction!

I used an intervelometer and, for some reason, it waited for a pretty long time before starting the next exposure. Not exactly the same time as the exposure itself; but it was not fast either. Next time I'm going to try the thirty second exposure time with continuous shooting the way you outlined in your post. We shall see how it works out. I am also going to scout out a better place. Maybe I'll even go out in the middle of the night when there is not so much traffic. Lots to think about. Thanks for the info and support.

EB, this is a little embarrasing but I figured out the issue I was having is that I forgot to figure the "photo replay" time into the intervalometer equation so that the IV would trigger while the previous photo was still displayed. Then the camera had to wait the remainder of the 31 seconds to trigger on the next cycle, giving me gaps. Drive on!
