A medium wide telephoto ...... 18-200 would cover all the bases, but something a bit shorter would work as well (you probably won't be shooting very long).
Since NO one here knows what your style is or what you want to shoot or what gear you have, NO one here but YOU can answer that question.

Depends on where your going and what your doing, big place, lot of possibilities, Manhattan? streets? markets? I'd go semi wide, fisheye would be shocking and creative, other areas you could even use a tele, SI ferry, Liberty, various parks, need more info from you, Bob
BTW good chance I'll be in "The City" on Sunday, around the FlatIron, T4i and 40mm or 24mm, will be weapon of choice.

Agreed. OP's shooting style doesn't matter and virtually anything can be covered by a 16/18-200/300 lens.
You don't say what camera and lenses you have so anyone trying to help is shooting in the dark. If you are taking only one lens I would take the one that covers the greatest range wide angle to telephoto. ;)

I recently hosted a lower Manhattan photo workshop, and while the participants came with all sorts of gear, I shot the entire thing with a 45mm on a full frame. Many were grab shots with zone focusing and pre-set apertures, though a few were composed. I am not a street photographer, but the group appreciated the techniques I taught them. Most were intrigued with the fact that when I wanted a wider view, I just shot a pano.

Well if his/her "style" includes only the use of compact cameras, it matters a lot. While the term "style" is ambiguous at best in the context of this thread, the poster who used it is absolutely correct in the thrust of the post.
Nikon D3100...50mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8, 55-300mm, n that's it.
Stop by B&H or Adorama and ask them. They will ask you the questions to which you don't give us the answers.
