DSLR Dilemma

I am in a dilemma wanting to purchase a new camera, I am torn between the Cannon T3i and the 60D, can anyone tell me if there is a huge difference between these two cameras, and what any major differences would be. I have read so many different reviews but nothing substantiating as to the biggest differences, I have a love for portrait and animal photography as well as nature.

I have the Canon 50D. I have heard many bad things about the 60D. I've heard it has an all plastic body. I was looking at upgreading when it came out...but was told by several people not to. The new 7D is back to the original body and I will be opgrading to it soon. Hope that helps a little bit

I shoot with a 60d I also have the 50d at first I was disapointed with the 60d because of the composite body.( I don't call it plastic it is like the glock pistol it was also called plastic but it is a high quality tool) But I soon discovered that the camera shot great and it has became my favorite camera by far. I also have a rebel too if you are going to use your camera as a working tool the wieght makes a big difference, after having a heavy camera around your neck for hours at a time you start to appreciate the lighter wieght. The quality of modern cameras are pretty much the same, it is all on how it feels in your hands. how easy is the controls to you, and does the feature do every thing you want. Heavier and bigger is not always better (been there done that) I have been photographer since 1972 (film days) and I am still learning but one thing I have learned is the camera is a tool and you are the craftman it is what you make with the tool.

Thank you everyone for your great advice it truly has helped with my decision, I went to my local camera store a d played around with both the t3i and 60d both are really great cameras, in the end the 60d felt better in my hands and will do better on portraits than the t3i, as you said it is merely a tool and thus we must learn how to control the tool how we need to control it. So I am waiting on my 60d to come in as I ordered it along with an 18-55mm & 55-250mm lens can't wait for them to come in and again thank for all of your help.

hopefully you ordered the 60d from your local camera store. the people there put time and effort into showing you the cameras, as well as will be there for any questions and problems you have. The local camera store is a vital resource and we must help maintain them. you can always save money on the internet or the big box chains. I just dont think it is ethical to use a local store to make your decision but give the business to somewhere else. besides a good camera store is like a good barbershop or cigar store. a great place to socialize and meet people.

The camera store was very helpful and actually had really great deals on the camera and lens that I ordered and also offered classes for you to get use to your new camera which was another big selling point for me, I don't mind reading all about the camera but it is nice to know I will have someone there to show me how all of the features work and I agree you can get deals anywhere but taking care of our local store means more to me with all of the help they gave me I wouldnt hesitate to go back for more equipment

A feature of the 60D I badly want is the swivel LCD. I have a 7D, which is a great, bottom pro model, but I really miss the swiveling screens of the point and shoot cameras I once used.
