255 second exposures
All other settings remain the same.
Just starting to get a bit of drift so the stars are not quite round.
Nice night to shoot before the moon comes up. Seeing was pretty good with some twinkle. Not sure how the ranking scale goes.

Some mighty good shots Jim, we have had some great weather around here lately, but every time I touch my camera the clouds come. Stay thankful that you have such beautiful views, we had them 40-50 years ago, but more people and more activity destroys the atmosphere thru dust, light pollution and haze. I wonder how high up we would need to go to get above it all. I love the occasional surprise clear sky, always when I'm busy with other things, so... I enjoy the shots you guys post up, keep 'em coming.

I agree, but you're right on par with him so don't stress. I haven't the capability to do more than a decent moon shot and I was tickled when I managed that!! You take me on armchair vacations too ya know...just instead of going to Australia or Timbuktu I go to the Orion Belt (I bet I have a cousin living there) :) or you take me clear across the galaxy to parts unknown. Talk about having a bad case of wanderlust...... you can make it happen in an instant!!

And I can't help it...every time I see either of you guys post these great shots I want to say silly things like Congratulations or Good Shot, but that seems like such a trite remark to make for all the work you put into doing this, so I say thank you for sharing your accomplishments. It makes my day brighter (pun intended :) )

Albuquerque has seen the same issues over the years.
As a kid in the 60's, we could see some of the milky way at night and I used to love sleeping outside "camping" in a sleeping bag and pillow so that I could watch the stars roll by. Albuquerque is so large now that last night I could not make out any of the stars of the little dipper other than Polaris, with the naked eye. We used to be classified as a white zone but have since been dropped to a red. I suspect its a fine line and we could go either way.
Prairieville looks to be pretty close to a red zone but you might be a little bit better off than I am. Its hard to tell from the light maps.
Thank you very much for the compliment. It is often a challenge to clean up the light pollution from these shots especially long exposures like this.

Your last comment is the reason I shoot so much and post so much. I have been in love with the stars and planets since I was a little kid. I had a neighborhood college student that had a home built humungous reflector telescope and homemade observatory in his backyard. He took me under his wing and treated me as anything but a kid showing me my first views of Saturn's rings and sunspots. Looking back he is the reason I love to show what I am doing to anyone that asks. I hope to fire that passion in people and always hope that what I choose to show is at least interesting knowing that it is not shot with the biggest thing out there but in some cases, like last night, simple gear that Galileo would have drooled over.
To that end I say thank you very much for the compliments you heap on all of us shooting and trying to learn as we go.
It means a lot to each of us.
Thank you.

It's beautiful Jim. And thank you for the compliment in your thread.

Thank you very much.

Almost all of my lenses are second hand old models. I do not try to stay on the bleeding edge. I happen to like the older ones. This has helped me to keep the cost down.
The Tamron 150-600 is my newest lens and I bought it from another UHH member for a reasonable price.
Just to clarify, absolutely no offense taken since I understand not everyone can find what I have found or can afford it if they do.

Thank you very much Craig and you're welcome.
I try to give attaboys where deserved.
Now if we can keep up with Sonny's learning curve.
I think he is going to show us both up since he has so much spare time on his hands.

;)

Speaking of Sonny Nights where are you???
As soon as he comes up with some program to get JPEG's out of his FIT's we're in trouble.
His guiding and now focus are spot on.

Heh, heh, heh...
Already got it. Export...

I finally resorted to reading the book a little. Orion put all the ingredients in the Camera Program, but I'm a slower learner.
I hate reading the instructions.

I really, really wanted to be out under the stars. But we went to see a nephew and his wife's new son at the hospital last night. Loki Everson... No, it's not misspelled.
Cute little guy. 9 pounder. But he didn't feel like a 9 pounder.
His big brother is 18 months old. Cute kids. Big blue eyes.

OK, gonna go see what I can grab tonight. I think I got the night before last sorted out now.
Parfocus, parfocus, parfocus... Otherwise, what you see isn't what you get.  :hunf:
