Now What? Lightroom and RAW files

I bought a new copy of LR, 3.0 and a new computer. (I know 4 is now out) I installed it and it won't open my RAW files from my Canon G12, couldn't open them before but I thought it was because my computer and PS3 were too old, hence the new computer and LR. I went to Canon's site and downloaded what I thought would fix it (don't know what) In any case it didn't.

Now what? Do I need a newer version of LR? Can my older verson of PS (3) be made to open the RAW's from my G12? It will open RAW's from my 5D?

Update the Adobe Camera Raw driver - current version is 6.6, I believe. http://www.adobe.com - click on "Downloads", ACR will be listed along the right side.

Same thing happened to me about a week ago. I shoot with the D 7000 and have been using Lightroom with no issues for about six months. All I had to do was go to the Adobe site and download the latest upgrade, and Voila, it works perfectly. My next step will be to upload new firmware.

Hope that fixes the problem!

It says that the ACR 6.6 is not compatiable with PhotoShop versions earlier than CS5, my version is CS3.

Edu, what version of lightroom are you using?

This is for 4.6.2 - there is a list of new (at the time of release) cameras supported. It is supposed to work with CS3.

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3822

If that doesn't do it, you should be able to convert raw to TIFF with the software that came with the camera, then import into LR (or upgrade LR).

Adobe frequently updates their programs to work with the newer cameras. The info about updating is spot on. That should fix it.

Yes, but Adobe stops writing the ACR updates for older versions of the applications. Apparently the latest version of ACR (6.6) does not with with CS4 or lower.

I just found out I don't have 6.6 on CS4, but it does work with LR3.

I'll give it a try but did notice it only takes the RAW format to a G9 camera, mine is a G12. I did use the software that came with my camera and converted to a .tiff and then imported it to LR. At least that worked.

Is there an ACR upgrade for LR3 somewhere I haven't found?

I have ACR 6.6 on LR3 and it works fine. I found I have ACR 5.7 on CS4 so I get a warning if I edit in Photoshop (an image that's already in LR.) I just selected the "Render Using Lightroom" and it seems to work fine. I wasn't aware of this because I don't always use PS - haven't for a couple of weeks.

I will download it from Adobe. Where do I put the downloaded file to install it into LR3? Do I just copy it into LR3 in a directory? I found instructions for PS but not LR.

The download is platform specific. If you have a Mac, run the downloaded file (DMG.) If you have Windows, I guess the downloaded file is either an EXE or a ZIP. You should be able to run it from anywhere (desktop, download folder)

Have you downloaded the latest version of LR 3? I think it's a complete package and will include the latest camera drivers.

try to find out where the file is then open and run it.
After that re-start the computer. That should do it and there are instructions on the adobe web site under the help topics.
I had the same issues.

The latest version of LR3 is 3.6, I downloaded it but it still won't open my G12 RAW files. Downloaded LR4 and it will. Guess I'll give them more money...
