Laptop help!

Looking at picking up a second computer and it will be a laptop. I have had Microsoft products for years, so really not interested in a Mac. Question, leaning toward an Acer, i7, 8gb ram, 1TB hard drive, with 17'' screen. This should be enough for post processing photos when on the road. If not, please advise.
Also, have Lightroom CC and pay a year at a time. How do I install Lightroom on the second computer?? Drawing a blank and any help anyone could throw my way, would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!

LR: install it as before using the adobe cloud download/install tool.

You can have LR and PS CC active on two computers. If more, Adobe will ask you if you want to disconnect the other copies, say 'OK' and it will work.

You need your sign-in e-mail/name and password.

The laptop? Well, it your budget, your $$$ so I am not the best person to answer... I have a tendency to go for the best at the moment I purchase the stuff so I pay a high price for the latest technology. Purchased a laptop two months ago... $4.400,00.

You might want to check out this discussion that I started when I was pondering purchasing my new laptop. My investigations and some comments on this thread led me to avoid Acer. Good luck.

If I did that my wife wouldn't let me retire. She would also make me put on a bullet proof vest and see if she could thrust a knife thru it.

Make sure you're happy with the keyboard. Otherwise, you'll never be happy using it.

I agree and since I have owned a laptop before, have hooked up an external keyboard to use. I hate the keyboards on a laptop! Have not found one yet that I like, since I can type around 40 words a minute.

Avoid Acer??? I did not see one comment about Acer, either good or bad in that link. Have had Acer's in the past and have a desktop Acer now that flies and have been very happy with it. Not sure where you got info about Acer!

My laptop is a 7 year old Compaq with a 17" screen. It's as close to a full size keyboard as they come. Like you, I can hit around 40WPM on it.

Sorry, maybe it wasn't that discussion but in the zillions of reviews I read. My s/o has an Acer laptop and we had a lot of problems with that in the first few months. I think it's been ok for now but he doesn't use it that much. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I've used laptops for my only computer for years. Unless you hook an external monitor to your computer for editing you will have to learn to match the angle of the screen to your viewing angle or your colors can be off, but that is usually a quick and easy thing to get the knack of.

The specs you gave should be fine to run Lightroom. One module you may want to pay attention to is the graphics adapter in the laptop. Some 3rd party plug-ins require that the graphics adapter be OpenGL or OpenCL compatible. If not, they either won't work at all or will work very slowly. Since you are looking at a new computer that PROBABLY will not be an issue, but it won't hurt to verify before you buy, especially if you think you might pick up some of the OnOne, NIK or Topaz filters at any time in the future.
