This is being written to inform as many of you as possible what happens here when you give an opinion on a controversial subject such as politics.

I suggest you read "What I learned from the Democratic Debates" and the comments and also go to Special Effects Challenge to see my CAPITALIZED post.

This website is supposed to be about photography not name calling because you don't agree with someone's opinion.

I'll defend anyone's right to their opinion but will not put up with personal attacks as you'll see by my challenge to any of those people and the name calling which followed.

I've been through too much in life to put up with that type of behavior.

I, unlike them will now apologize to the dog with sunglasses as I should have just said "moronic" not moron.

The only way for this website to stay about photography is for enough people here to let the Administrator know that if it continues he/she will find most of us gone.

I don't have to stay here and there are other website's for real ARTIST'S. I like the people on Swedes Special Effects Challenge and others here and would like to stay but I have no problem leaving if this behavior continues.

Only when people stand up for what is right does anything get done.

BTW, Several people over the last few years have left because of this exact reason and we've lost very good artists because others won't speak up.

So I'll leave this in the hands of all of you to do what's right or not.

I have been here for a short time and I quickly realized that more than 90% of the frequent posters of the attic don't care about photography, I bet some even don't own a camera. I just deleted the attic from my settings. The attic is indeed not about photography, it does a good job of keeping trash where it belongs.

This thread is not about photography and will most likely meet its demise in "The Attic" as well.

I wish it weren't on this site at all.

The Attic and Chit Chat are not about photography.
They were created for those who want to talk about other subjects, or rant about politics etc. The Attic was a spin off from Chit Chat for those posts/posters that got rude, crude and obnoxious.

If you don't want to see or read what they post, then don't go there. If you insist on putting in a comment on one of those sites then just IGNORE the posts/posters you object to. Last I checked no one had come by and forced you, me or anyone else to go to those sub forums.
If one of them shows up on a thread elsewhere, IGNORE them. You do not need software to do this, just don't click on or read them. Act like they don't exist.

I have been on forums of one kind of another ..since bulletin Boards or News Groups..etc. In my opinion it is the job of the Admins to monitor such attacks. They should warn the person who posted the attack and then kick them off the list if they do it again. Too many groups over the years have died because the admins just sat by and did nothing.

I believe that sites such as this should limit the subjects to strictly to photography and not to religious or political comments. There could be sub topics such lens, lighting, tripods and etc. There should not be any topics allowed that do not directly deal with photography.

There is no reason for The Attic to even exist, other than making administration easier (and less effective). It also has at least two very negative effects that do great harm to UHH.

First, posts that should simply be deleted, are not. That allows and encourages that kind of article to be posted.

Second, threads that have useful information often eventually end up in the The Attic (where they are of no value wh**ever) because one or two people start abusing others. If the abuse were deleted, the thread could continue and possibly be productive.

Unfortunately Admin cannot be expect to be everywhere and do everything. And the Section Managers range from very capable, to 4 or 5 that are the worst offenders on UHH. Hence I don't see much chance of any significant change. Grow a thick skin, ignore abusers, and most of all do not fall into the trap of fighting back with the same kind of abuse!

Well, the admin here is active. He is also smart.

The attic as mentioned above is a containment unit. As also said, if you do not want to go there you are not forced to use (also mentioned).

Everywhere else the emu keeps track of what is going on and 'distribute warnings' as needed.

This is also a site where folks can run their own forum with limited admin resources. I cannot say from many other places.

The ostrich is smart enough to let i***ts deal with each other and not appear to take side.

This allows for more freedom than anywhere else when stating opinions on photographic subject vs being a 'dictate'.

In short, you complaint will end in the attic where it belongs as he warns about complaints and rants over the attic in any channel.

That you stay or leave is your business. See if anyone cares.

Enjoy your present state of mind.

Why all the drama? If you want to leave, just leave. Trust me, the other 45,000 or so other people will barely notice you're gone.
Or perhaps you might just go to another forum that specializes in political debate. You may well be more comfortable there.

1 is Chit Chat, which is kept pretty tame
1 is The Attic

I belong to both CC and TA, I often don't like what is there, but, I ignore it for the most part. If I am in a mood I may post a rebuttal or counter to something. The name calling etc I usually just pass over.

Considering how some people are when they can hide in the net Admin would go nuts trying to ride herd on them all the time. The Attic, even with the moving of things that might be productive does pretty well at keeping the nasty critters out of the way.

I agree with you but this post was on the Up Coming Topics Thread and was at some point yesterday moved I believe.

I very rarely vary from the Main, Gallery or Special Effects Challenge and have never been to the attic.

Besides the point is for real ARTIST'S to stand up and eliminate people who are here for only that type of interaction. Anyone new to this forum will probably be put off by such behavior. So it's up to the long time UHH members to do something or they can do as you suggest by just ignoring these people and this website will soon be full of them.

I click Report Issue under anything I find offensive and for the most part they are scuttled away into The Void.
- And, when I come across a user who constantly pushes the line I PM Admin and let him resolve it.
