Now DxOMark has finally put up the results of testing the new 5DsR with different lenses. What surprised me when looking at this is how bad the expensive L glass from Canon is doing in comparison with f.x. cheap Sigma lenses. Seems like L glass is highly overrated. Except for the 300 mm and longer lenses you will usually get a Sigma or Tamron or some other brand glass that is sharper and optically better then same focal length L glass for about half the price.
I do not need any replies on this, this is put here only to inform others that have not seen the DxOMark results yet. But discussion is welcomed if anyone is interested.
These often touted ratings are, in the final analysis, just computational numbers. I believe DxO's algorithms are very good, but I also believe and trust the perceptions of experienced users and knowledgeable viewers. Great technique and real artistic skill shouldn't be reduced to equations.

L glass was introduced by canon as a moderate quality, moderate price product for those who could not afford the real stuff.
I never have understood the cult following that developed.

I used to have about 10 different Sigma lenses and I got rid of all of them, because of very poor IQ, now that I have mostly L glass, I'm happy with the results!
Statistics are like a girl in a bikini - what she shows is interesting, what they hide is vital.

I'm not interested!!
But I can show you pics made with crappy L lenses that will cut your eyeballs out they are so sharp!!! I guess if it's sharper, you can cut your eyeballs out just a little faster!!!!

I knew you were not interested, that is why I used this word in my post :XD:
Just add your weight and height together to obtain a definitive number from DxO. They do not provide a system openly to the public in how they measure and seem to be bias.
I don't want to turn this into a hateful campaign but one must judge according to images instead of questionable practices within test labs.
I'm not trolling but any system can provide amazing results from a skilled photographer. Our cameras have never been this good and it's the 8 inches behind the viewfinder than determines the image and NOT the camera.
You really believe DXO Mark?
Look at the Canon L lenses with a 250mp sensor behind them.
Of course DXO will do what ever they can to denigrate the Canon lenses.
I have shot the cheap lenses and the L lenses. There is absolutely no comparison in real life and will not go back to non-L lenses unless there is not one for what I want to do or is so high priced it is not currently in my budget.
I will take real life over DXO mark any time any day.

I am interested in what they are hiding. That is where images make or break what they are hiding.

  ...........DXO is but a small indicator of real world performance in skilled hands ( and minds) !

And The "real stuff" is?
Anything that was better at the time L glass was introduced.
It is not a judgment which can be made easily in terms of todays lens lineup and certainly not made by an individual..

My experience is the same as SS! They may be crappy, but I am getting incredible photos with the L lenses. Funny how the guys earning all their living selling photographs all use L lenses if they are shooting Canon. "a man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still" BTW, Canon has a list of recommended lenses for the 5DSR. With the 5DSR and my old "crappy" L lenses I got some amazingly sharp photos last month in Spain. Just lucky I guess.
