Nikon D750 Kit question

Hello all. Now I have this itch to buy the D750 and hence the following question. The 24-120 FX lens is actually ore expensive than the 28-300 FX lens. However, all retailers (Adoraa, B & H etc) have the D750 kit which includes the 24-120 lens for $2300. My question is whether they will switch the 24-120 lens to the 28-300 lens for the same price ? I will have more use out of the 28-300 lens.

P.S I already own D7100 with the not so useful 18-55 lens and 18-200 DX lens, 50mm 1.8 and 35 mm 1.8 lens.

Probably the best way to get the correct answer to your question is to call the retailers and ask them.

Maybe ask the sellers? That way you'll get an answer rather than page after page of WAG.

Nikon sets up the kit. When I purchased the Nikon D750 with the kit 24-120 lens, the camera body and the lens came in a single Nikon packaged box. It was a big box, but it was one and only one box.

In hind sight, I would have purchased the D750 body only and a 28-300. (I did later buy the 28-300 and it is on my camera 85% of the time.)

I still use the 24-120 when I am indoors and want the wider, 24 vs 28 side of the lenses.

The D750 is a fantastic camera, and both the 24-120 and the 28-300 are wonderful lenses. I also upgraded from a D7100 and now have some DX lenses that are not used.

iyernat, I do have the D750 and based on the recommendation of Ken Rockwell, I opted for the 28-300 which was almost $300 less expensive than the kit 24-120. Ken Rockwell mentioned that he thought Corporate Nikon made a pricing error in that the 28-300 should have been priced higher than the 24-120. I also have a D7000 with the 18-55 kit lens.

Could it be they are using the older, less desirable version of the 24-120?

The 24-120 is a F4 Nano lens, higher optical quality than the 28-300 model. No real mystery there at all.

Right! When I bought mine, I had no choice but to get the kits, and I sold the lens right away.

If you don't specifically want that lens, don't get the kit. Buy the body and then decide on a lens.

Well, it makes the camera + lens about $500 more expensive if I go that route. $1900 + $1000. I am hoping to get the "my kit" for $2400

Exactly why I purchased the kit initially. And then I still wanted the 28-300, so I purchased that 6 months later. I kept both lenses and found a use for both lenses, but you could sell the 24-120 if you do not find a use for it.

Because I had the 24-120 f/4 lens, I have not (yet) purchased a 24-70 f/2.8, it is only one stop less.

The 24-120 f4 is a much better lens, which covers my favorite focal range (wide to portrait). The 28-300 is a variable aperture lens that goes to f/5.6.

But you can buy what you want. Personally, I have no need for a 10x zoom. If I want a walk around camera, I'll use my Olympus.

I have the D 750 and both the 24-120 and the 28-300. I originally bought the 28-300 for my DF, bought the 24-120 then the D 750. Though I like both lenses, the 24-120 is the better of the two. The difference is visible on extreme crops with shots from either camera. IMO.

All the data substantiates your claim but the 28-300 is far more versatile. Granted there are optically superior lenses available but its a top contender for versatility.

I like mine very much.

No disagreement -- depends on where I am and what I am doing. Usually both are mounted -- one on the DF the other on the 750. Only exception is when I travel then the 18-35 will be on one body -- at night a fast 50.
