I was out with my buddies hunting Pheasant when I spotted this guy in the distance, ditched my friends and gun. Grabbed my camera and stalked this guy. Shot was about fifteen feet distant with my Sigma Sport 150-600. I have spotted another critter that is on my list so who knows what next week will bring, I am thinking portable blind.

Two great shots RAK, the first one is a study in focus and dof.
Looks like he didn't even know you were there! Lol!

RAK - two really fine shots. Are owls prone to pose? Are they common in your area? I have yet to find an owl to photograph.

He looks upset with you.
Maybe next time you are in the area take him a mouse or two.

Great shots! You got pretty lucky to spot that one. You wouldn't think they would be on the ground during daylight would you? It's sad to see the areas around here now that are all "clear-cut" knowing ones like owls and other birds like woodpeckers have lost their places to live. I know the trees in our development can be a mess when there are strong winds but it's worth it for what we get to see.

I had structure to hide behind as I was sneaking up on him and I lead with my lens, it was all he saw I stayed behind the lens and only got to look at him after I had taken my shots. He obviously saw the lens but did not feel threatened. He immediately flew off when I revealed my face. This is his natural habitat Gravel sand or dirt banks they are ground dwellers and only perch higher when hunting. This was just before sunset, the time when they awaken and scout for their nights activities. I feel really fortunate to have gotten images from two different species of owls on succeeding weekends. There is a fox hunting near our camp and he is on my list!

Wise choice (to ditch the gun) and shoot this little cutie instead. Super nice shots! I would have been thrilled!

Delightful, photogenic subject! #1 is nicely framed by the light and weeds. A beautiful shot.
