My Nikon D7000 is a lemon. Continuous back focusing problems
I want a simple system...not a lot of gear to haul or I will need to hire a sherpa.
These are my requirements for a replacement:
1. Lightweight
2. simple menu
3. can activate remote flash
4. I don't need 2 card slots
5.I don't use 80% of the features of my D7000, (i.e.Qmode,Stored programs, Video) I only shoot photos
6.Will work well with f2.8 17-55 lens and f 1.8 50 mm lens
7.Is not possessed and has a good track record.
8. Will do well with portrait work and school events-volleyball/basketball)

Camera I have had remarkable success with... Nikon D50 EVERY image I shot was pristine. D7000 is horrible.

Have looked at D5300 D5500 D3300

So, fellow photographers using Nikon....what is your recommendation?

For digital, which I assume you want, I use a D700. It's worked perfectly for almost 5 years.

D700 is FF, no?

17-55 f/2.8 is DX.

Yes lens is DX. So 700 not a fit?

FF - Yes. If one is that enthused about purchasing a camera, get a lens that goes with it.

Why not just continue using the D50, sounds like a jem.

I would think that any Nikon crop frame would work for you. Since you did not have problems with the D50 and liked the quality of the pictures no use going FF since you already have crop lenses. You will need to make sure your lenses have focusing motors if you use them on the cameras you mentioned. I would look at a D7100 the prices are great now. Refurbs are a buy. Buy it from a reputable dealer and then test test test and test again for back focus and other problems and if you have them send the camera back. Good luck and what a bummer getting a lemon. - Dave

No such thing as a Nikon with a simple menu.

Suggest you send the D7000 and lenses to Nikon for tuning. Should be less expensive than a new camera and you already know the menu.

Is the menu on your D7000 OK?

I haven't looked at a Nikon at a store in years, and I never did get around to buying one. I owned Canon and now I own Pentax. My personal experience has been that once I get a camera set up the way I want it, I hardly ever have to get into the menu system - I can make the minor changes I need using the dials and buttons.

I sold the D50 to a boy who really loved photography. Oh well. Now to design a system that will be reliable. I did send the D7000 back once for the back focusing problem. But obviously for naught.
