Opinions?
1. This is an attractive image of three most appealing, attractive kids
....and the white thing needs to go. Waaaaay too distracting.

2. Get the camera down to the kids' eye level.

3. Shakespeare and Wordsworth were brilliant.

4. Stieglitz, Steichen, and Adams were brilliant.

5. Jerald Feldbaum's portraits leave much to be desired.

6. Winter is a wonderful season for photography.

(More opinions available on request!)

Welcome to the family, transcriber.

You have very photogenic subjects there! I don't do portraits, but I imagine that the longer one tries to do the perfect setup, the more unnatural the poses and smiles would be.

One thought for future: think about the background and setting in advance, so you can say, OK kids, right here, smile! Try to avoid distracting backgrounds, especially those that have bright light, like these windows.

Welcome to FYC! Look around, offer your thoughts, and keep sharing.

Beautiful kids, looks like you got them sharply focused. Would suggest like others that you reshoot if possible with the window curtains closed, or when it's dark so you don't have that bright distraction. Lighting can be a challenge with these Christmas shots, and I'm not the one who can advise you because I absolutely fail with flash so I just don't use it. If you want some feedback about lighting, I hope someone capable with that can step up. I agree with the poster that the closer you get to eye level with them, the better. And always shoot lots, some of the ones where you catch them off guard will be priceless.

If you can't reshoot, you may want some PP help here, or in the PP section, to make the most of the shot you have, because there is more to be had from this one. If you do, you should attach the original (larger) file and ask for whatever you want.

Opinions Yep on everything! How much time have ya got?
Welcome aboard the FYC express where you will receive all the help you will ever need.
Your picture has the look of a family snap?
Awful background for a portrait posh house though. We can assume your rich?
The kids skin tones are a little off with a very slightly greenish tinge on my monitor but the Hog algorithm can be unkind to some shots.
I do the odd portrait and prefer perfect strangers. Avoid family and especially kids for serious work.
You appear to be standing over these kids when shooting and have done the little girl no favors consequently. Get level with the shortest and release the shutter. Faces taken from above have a long nose distorted look to them.
Kids pull faces have braces on their teeth or even worse gaps etc. All looks cute in reality but does not work if you try and make a photo of it. Ends up as snap shot.
W C Field was perfectly correct in his views upon young folk and working with them.
Hope to see some more of your work soon.

This is wonderful advice. I've found that the more I do family photography the more I learn. It may not always be possible to choose your background when those special moments happen. One method I've tried at such gatherings is to go on a tour of the area and then plant myself in a good spot for lighting and background (I might even do a little tweaking of the area as well) and then wait for moments to come to me. Somewhat like a street photographer might do.
