Would it be better to have Lightroom 6 downloaded into my IMac computer or purchase a hard copy for $8 more?

Thanks

I down loaded mine. The hardest part was wading through the Adobe site to find the LR option to buy, instead of renting the CC version.

No problems with the down load.

I'd be tempted to go for the disk, especially if you get both windows and mac versions on disk. though to be fair the first thing you will end up doing is downloading the updated version. At least you will know where your serial number is.

Personally, I prefer downloading software, no clutter to store around the house ;)

Re-download if you need it later for some reason.

Adobe displays all your product serial numbers in a list in your account. I had to reinstall 4 on my netbook -- LR6 doesn't work on that ancient hardware & uninstalling 6 caused the previous 4 to not work anymore. So I logged into my account, found serial #, dug around in my download folder on the netbook & found the download exe & was able to re-establish a working LR. I keep a folder of install exe's on my disk & some also copied to CD's.

There's no reason to have the disc. I watched a video by Julianne Kost yesterday, and she said the same thing. If you have to reinstall it, it will be older than the current download. When you download it, save it to a disc. Then, when Adobe goes out of business, you will still be able to use it. :D

Whenever I reinstall, I do it via download.

Of course, IF the product relies on communicating to Adobe to activate the software, and they are out of business... well.... perhaps there is a special dance that can be done ;)

Ever try activating windows when there is no internet connection or MS servers were inaccessible? ;)

That's when I'll have to find different software. I'm not much of a dancer. :D

If you download it, be sure to burn the *.dmg file to a DVD so you can reinstall in the future as the "bought" version may eventually go away.

I like having the disk. And get the stand alone version instead of CC. Photog blogs are filled with discussions about problems with CC, and an apology from Adobe. Who cares about every update unless you are a professional photographer who needs every little new feature. Instead pay years later to get bug free version with all the bug free updates included.

You do not have to download every update. There is a setting for that.

I think you are spreading incorrect info ;)

I have been on CC for over a year, NO problems....none...

The Adobe Apology was for a change to LIGHTROOM 6 and Lightroom CC 2015 - they changed the IMPORT screen without telling anyone and it made many mad. They have since changed it back to the old import screen... this affected both the CC version AND the standalone version it came through as an update....

The CC plan is a great bargain, you get Lightroom AND Photoshop for a lousy $10.00 a month? HOW can you argue with that?

If you ONLY want Lightroom, buy it outright while you can, but eventually it may become unsupported/unupdatable ;) Already the CC version of Lightroom has some features that the standalone version does not, so you pays your money and you takes your chances. ;)

Here we go again! I don't see any point in trying to convince CC users that they should buy the stand alone. Just like it makes no sense to tell people with the stand alone that they should have gotten CC.

Why do we always feel the need to tell people what they should do with their money?

For me, CC made financial sense. Upgrading PSCS- every other year, cost me a TON more money than CC, and I get LR tossed in.

If I were a home user, who didn't intend to upgrade equipment, or depend on PP programs as part of my business, than CS- would probably work just fine for me.

I really get tired of people bashing the other side, or Adobe. Frankly, I don't spend much more on full blown CC with LR, than I would have spent just staying current with Elements.

Is elements bad? No, I even have a copy on my event computer. My daughter, who is also one of my business partners, prefers to work with elements. She spends about $100 a year. I don't think she's dumb, she uses what works.

Sheesh, if you hate it that much, use a different program, and stop trying to convert everyone else.
