Can anyone tell me how to turn on the highlight warnings (blinkies) on the D800? I know that it is very similar to the D700, but I can't find out how to turn it on anywhere. I am stepping up from a D80, so this is quite a change for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Time to open up that big new manual and start studying it sounds like.

I'm with MT - pretty sure Nikon still ships a manual with the camera.
You are you supposed to read the instructions after ever thing else fails?
Thanks so much for all your wonderful words of wisdom. WOW, I never thought of looking at the manual.

If you look in your menu under Display Mode, there should be a marker to toggle on or off, but the manual is always your best resource with a new camera, it will work wonders with your knowledge base of that camera if you just take a few hours and go through it section by section. Congrats on getting your body so early, many are still waiting, me included.
Do you mean Zebra stripes?

Also note that with the pdf manual you can use "CTRL-F" and then type in a word or phrase to search on. It's usually much better than using the index.
Alas "Blinkies" probably won't work so try "LCD" or something like that.
My guess is it might be like my (much less exhaulted) Nikon: push up on the multiselector to toggle through the LCD options. If it doesn't come up you may need to change a setting in your menu.

I keep pdf copies of my manuals on my computer. If I want to look up something, I do a search. Sometimes I have to try a couple of different words before I find it, but it beats paging through the manual.

On the Nikon D90 the highlights are in Display as per MT. My Display is listed under Playback Menu, then go down to Display Mode, click on that and then change highlights on. Hope yours are the same.

Look at page 244 in your manual. I think that's it.
If it's the same as my D700, toggle to the top icon on the left side of the display. (playback menu) Then toggle down to the "Display mode". Select Display mode and toggle down to highlights and select highlights. A check mark should appear in its box. Toggle back up to "Done" and you're on your way. :-) If it's not the same as the D700 then :-(
1. On page 224 the manual shows that you must first turn on highlights. Go to the playback menu then to "Playback display options" (4th from top).
2. Then scroll (using the multi-selector, 4-way controller) to the page that shows the histograms (you might have to turn on histograms) for the photo that you want.
3. Press the zoom-out/thumbnail button (the one with the minus sign on the little magnifying glass. Then press the right arrow> of the selector switch to select which histogram you'd like to check the highlights for. Using the >< arrows keys you can scroll through each histogram & may check for "blinkies" in the RGB, Red, Green, Blue channels individually.
You will now notice the little "blinkies" have appeared in any photo the highlights are blown.
Hope this explanation isn't too hard to understand. Page 224 of the D800 manual gives pictures and an explanation of the technique which I have attached as a download.
