Hya Tom nice bloom to practise on. Its sorta shouting for some PP my man.
Your image is very flat and a little too yellow maybe. Chances of getting great images straight out of the camera are in my opinion about zero. That's why the Good Lord gave us PP software.
Just played with your image for a matter of minutes there is more that could be done but see what you think.
Great crop you have by the way just about perfect for the subject

A pleasing study of an impressive flower. I do prefer Billy's edit - for a bit more clarity, contrast and whites over the yellowish tint.

Sorry I can't recall if I have already mentioned, but a free editor that is fun, easy to learn, and can help you get your feet wet, Picasa.

Tom, I feel obligated to tell you....in one of Billyspads previous lives he was a florist.

This may be a dupe. I played with the original in the program that came with the camera, Silkypix. still prefer the original color. Had my wife do a side by side without knowing which was which and she picked the original, (she gets to stay in the house). This may be because we have the actual flower sitting in front of us. I tried to improve the contrast a bit. I appreciate your help, Tom

Hi Linda, I do have picasa and like it but I used Silkypix which came with camera for this pic. I like the color of the original better, this might be because the actual flower is setting in front of me. I did try to increase the contrast a bit. I thank you for your comments,
Tom

for me the color balance was off a bit, and there is a spot on the white petals that seemed overexposed. I tried a quick correction, see attached

Tom,

Interesting floral study. After looking at it I wondered about what else could be done with it. This is a departure from what you presented but it's not pp'd to death as this presentation could be achieved without digital work if it were on film.

Hope you find it interesting - not better - just interesting.

Hey Jim, very nice, I like it. It confused me at first, what shot is this, then I realized it was rotated 90 degs. I am very new to serious digital. Did a lot of 35mm film years ago but forgot most of what I learned. Thank you,
tom
