Is there a way to skip the library module and just use the develop module. I'm a Photoshop user and do not want to "import" or use "key words". Comments please.

No, you have to import, you don't have to use keywords, but it's stupid not to.

You don't need to use key words at all. The images import into the library.

Open your first image into the develop module and you should see the rest of your images as thumbnails toward the bottom. after editing your image, click on the next one to edit it. You don't need to go back into the library until you are done editing and ready to export your images

Nope but if you are "importing" to your computer outside of Lr then all Lr will do is "Add" them to the catalog without moving them, you can't process your images in Lr without a catalog.
If you haven't been using Lr and now decide to, then it is just a matter of telling Lr where the images are and Lr will import them by creating a catalog which retains the original file structure so nothing really changes except there is now a catalog file which consists of a bunch of file addresses, previews, and editing instructions.

I only import the images I want to work on in the develop module and export them when I'm done. Once in a while Lightroom will import more than I want to but I just uncheck all then check the ones I want to work on in the develop module.

Walt

Edit: I don't use keywords either.

In your opinion. Not everyone needs or wants the library function of Lightroom.

Exactly, I would like to just use develop and have nothing to do with import at all.

Different strokes. If you have thousands of photos, keywords can help you find a needle in a haystack quickly. One of the strengths of Lightroom is it's catalog, a database of your images if you will. With keywords and a date range, you can find all pictures of horses from 2013, for example. If you don't use the catalog's benefits or don't want them, you're almost better off staying in Photoshop. of course, in the Develop module, you can copy settings from one photo to others and save a lot of editing time. Good luck using the features you like at the moment. The rest of the package may grow on you.

Lightroom requires the use of the Library module as you have to import everything into it and it tracks the image (mine puts all images in by the date the image was taken) then it is fairly easily looked up. I also create collections (for instance all Key West, All Miami, All seascapes, Sunsets, Sunrises, my business shoots are by name so I can go back and grab them, etc. ) this makes lookups very easy.

Good heavens why? LR is an organization tool and non-destructive at that, along with some solid functionality aka the develop module.

If your a PS user why are you going backwards in power and not take advantage of the LR organization?

Typical use is LR for organization(non-distructive) and about 90-100% of editing and slipping into PS when you need to get to pixel level.

Import is required to use LR, and Import is only available in the library module. You can't see anything in the develop module unless you import it to LR. Import doesn't do anything to the file: it just saves the location of the file in the LR catalog so it can find it. You can send things from LR to PS and back, but if something isn't in the LR catalog you can't send it from PS to LR (other than importing it).

Much of the value of LR is in the catalog. Keywords allow you to locate things without knowing the file name. LR can search the catalog to find keywords (or file names, or many other metadata elements).

If you use PS exclusively to edit your photos, many people skip LR altogether and use Bridge for their organization.

So why do you want to use the Develop module? Does it have something that PS doesn't?
