Infra Red Photography Filter

I've been experimenting with IR photography using filters rather than converting a camera. I found the filters problematic as you had to remove the filter to focus, then reattach the filter and shoot.
So, I went looking for a 4"x4" IR filter, but found they cost upwards of $225 each. While searching in the Optics area I stumbled upon a 4"x5" IR filter (not Glass). I got it today and the images look fine.

I'd like an opinion from an experienced IR photographer as to what I got and their thoughts on using this filter.
Here's a link to the filter I bought.

Thank you in advance for your input.

ejrmaine, at that price ($17+shipping) you are not risking the family fortune. The specifications look as tho it would put you in the 750 nm area which is my favorite.

Long Pass Filter, what? Aaah, it is a sharp cut off filter. The % transmission of the actual filter you mentioned is also shown below (second photo).

Does your camera have a manual focus capability? If so can you focus then attach a screw on filter and remain in focus.

I have a camera modified for IR, and I use the cheapy filters off eBay. No complaints about them at all.

With IR, you are trying to create interesting results by limiting visible wavelengths and including wavelengths longer than some value you decide. If the cutoff is not as steep, or not as accurate, you're still going to get interesting results.

Go for and have fun.
