Advice for selecting new(er) body

I am currently shooting with a D300s and D700. All my glass is FX. I think it's finally time for a new body with more "Oomph". I am considering these: D3x, D4, D810 and D750. All have advantages and disadvantages. My main subject is landscape with some street, macro and portraiture. I have two SB-800 speedlights and usually use a Stroboframe, not the wee pop up light.

I really don't know how to choose a new or newer body. Any advice would be really appreciated. BTW, I am selling up to 20x30 images with my current kit, so maybe this is just GAS?

I went from a D3 and D300 to a D800. As soon as the D810 was released I traded the D800 for it. Along the way I found that I did want a DX and that selling the D300 was a mistake. Bought a D7100. As it has become more and more difficult to get down and up, bought a D750 for the articulating LCD. D810 is my main - depending on where and what, I'll take one or the other also.

Any of the cameras, you list are first rate, especially for landscape. Does budget or size/weight effect your decision? Depending on how much street photography you do, did you ever consider getting something lighter, perhaps mirrorless, not to replace your full frame, but in addition to?

The D750 is probably the most bang for the bucks of ANY camera currently being sold.
Downside is the control layout is different from your current cameras and your remotes ( if you have one ) are not compatible.

Just GAS. Nobody can really give you the right answer but you yourself.

D 750 is a very capable camera with a great bag of tricks. Somewhat lighter and smaller than the 800s D3/D4. Am really enjoying mine, and have used it with a variety of lenses and photo types. My other camera is a DF which is excellent as well.

I upgraded from a D300S to a D800 last year. Love it. Never looked back. You will like the resolution capability of the 810 which was not available when I bought my D800

I have the D800 and it is great. But my new D750 has blown me away with it so far. You cannot go wrong, one of the best Nikon's out of the box that I have used. I have owned over 40 Nikon bodies over the years and this is the best I have used out of the box. Don't forget the tilt screen for those really low shots.

Does anyone shoot both a D750 and a D4s? Excuse me for butting into the thread but I, too, am considering a new camera body. The D750 is, for me, probably most practical but the D4s' processing power, low-light focus ability, toughness and audio notes have much appeal- despite being three times the price with only 2/3 the D750's pixels.

I don't know what more "oomph" means to you, but judging from the pictures you posted, it looks like your current equipment enables you to do the job quite well. There's no substitute for your own creativity and capabilities.
I'd suggest focusing on what it is about your equipment that's preventing you from getting a certain set of results and identify the addl capabilities you feel you need. That should take you directly the the equipment you require to get to what you think is your next level.
Good luck.

If you shoot anything that moves, the D810 has the Group Area Focus Mode, found in the D4s. The D810 also gives you a great number of pixels. It would be an excellent landscape camera, as well. Of course, the D4s would be a top camera for sports, etc.

Those are terrific pictures and I think the D700 is the best over-all camera Nikon has made. What are you missing with your current kit that a new body would give you?

You are better off with the D4s which, is on sale. But for me the better camera is the D750, tilt screen(focuses just as fast but only has half the frame rate). And, you spend 5000.00 and it's outdated three years later, so is the D750 but you saved 3000.00. And, in three years, the replacement for the D750 will be their for you and you have 3000.00 for a really nice lens that will also go on the replacement for the D750 in three years.
