Portrait of a Great Blue Heron, up close

The prairies and swamps are starting to heat up with visitors from the north. This handsome Heron emerged from some bushes along a slough surrounding the swamp. I was able to get off a shot before he flew off. Big Cypress Swamp Please try the download and double click.

Very nice capture. I really like closeups on big birds like this. The detail is great.

The lighting brings out the details nicely.

That's exactly what I want! Do you think if I dug a huge, shallow hole in my front yard, filled it with water and threw in a few cans of sardines, that they will come? I bet the city of Overland Park will bitch again about the sardines.
