Hi everybody. My name is Rich and I currently live in Clifton Park, NY. I am looking forward to learning from everyone here about their experiences and tips for better photography.
I am using a Nikon D7000 (upgraded from the D70) with the 18-105 kit lens and a 70-300 zoom. I love lightning so I made my first attempts at shooting it when we lived in Johnstown, Colorado last year. I also included a shot of the moon and a critter from Bear Lake, Colorado. Would love to hear what you think.
Nice lightning shot. Deer a little over exposed.

Welcome Rich!!!! Great shots especially the lightening catch!!!
Welcome Rich!
Love the lightening shot!
We don't get much of that kind of lightening here, which is OK with me because I don't like it.
But, that being said, I would still like try and catch some with my camera!
Welcome. I absolutely love the lightning shot. Can you give us some data on it, like lens, aperature, speed, ISO?

Yes, the lens was the 18-105 kit lens (camera on a tripod of course), set to F8, focus to infinity, use "bulb" setting, and wireless remote. Looking forward to trying to capture more this year. Good luck to you!!
Thanks to everyone for the nice comments.
No one liked the moon shot?
Chipmunk!
OK, I'll bite....it's not that I didn't like the moon shot, I just liked the lightning more. I like the phase the moon was in. Most people try to shoot the moon in full phase, your picture was a bit harder to capture, and you did a good job, except I would have like to have seen a bit more detail in it. Don't take this as negative criticism, everyone has their own personal "eye"...what looks good to them, and what they like. I like a photo to tell a story. It's the same with paintings. I would not walk across the street to see a modern art exhibit, but would to see Norman Rockwell. It's all a matter of personal taste.

Hi auntie!
I could tinker with it a bit to see if I could bring more detail out.
Thanks for the input.
