Hello,

I belong to a photo club. Like many clubs there is a membership problem. The president of the club kept after me for two years to become the treasurer which I finally did. Then anther two years venting to me about members not stepping up to do things.

The past year I ended getting involved in many projects that needed to be done. Several months back I seemed to pick up the president seem to have a different attitude toward me.

A few days ago I had to send some information about someone who was attending a meeting to the board of directors. The person who was coming to the meeting is a female in their mid to late thirties. I just said in the email here is the information for the girl who is coming.

The next thing I know the president who is female sent me an email chastising me to referring the this person as a girl. I was told I could create serious problems for the club and not to refer any member, non-member or vendor in an inappropriate manor.

I honestly was dumb founded when I received this email and I am now thinking of leaving the club. I am thinking of me referring to this person as a girl has nothing to do with anything and that by me stepping up and doing this other things may have created some king of resentment with the president.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Uh oh! You have been bitten by the dreaded PC snake!
My answer to the critics at my age, would be "any female under 40 looks like a girl to me! Get a life."
PC can create a toxic environment awfully fast. Fight back, leave, or put up with the BS. Best of luck!

By your ID it looks like you are also a "girl." Does it bother you to be referred to this way? If not, then point that out to the pres. Or tell her to take a flying leap off something tall.

Hello, br br I belong to a photo club. Like many ... (show quote)

Brief suggestion: Reevaluate your continued position with the club. It sounds like you have been dissatisfied; weigh the pros/cons as either an officer or member, then choose. Note the old Groucho Marx quote: "I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member."

The "Hog" has many enlightened pros and amateurs. Seek their wisdom; might be a better choice than continuing with the club.

Best wishes!!

I would have to wonder if the person referred to as a girl took offense, or if the president took it upon herself to be offended for her, possibly because of an unrelated agenda. The term girl isn't automatically offensive to all adult women. It depends on the context.

I refuse to live in a gender-neutral world. PC has gone far beyond the acceptable. Assess your take on the situation, and act accordingly. I can't see how this would be offensive to anyone, except the PC police.

I think your president has one big problem, I can't for the life of me see how it is inappropriate for you to refer to a female as a girl. I think all this pc has gone way too far, I am a pensioner and would not object to being called a girl, much better than old woman...

Question would be, how much fun was the club prior to being brow beat into being treasurer. If you feel being a member still worth your time. You might send a reply to the President saying something like:

Yo Girlfriend:

Adult to Adult you asked me to take this job and out of respect I have done so. Like many I am the product of my generation. I make no apologies. If a person is offended, I will talk with the person and we will reach a mutual accommodation. I won't accept being brow beaten for being myself or talked to as if I were a child. I did my time and at my age don't need the grief. I do expect the respect.

Your Name

Find a new club where you have real people not someone with a PC chip on their shoulder or have a go at her for turning a simple bit of help into some sort of a gender mission. Maybe she sees a future in politics.

What a stupid world we live in.

1. You haven't done anything wrong.
2. You are, presumably, doing this work voluntarily.
3. You don't want fawning gratitude but a little respect for your responsible position would be nice.
4. Resign your post as treasurer.
5. Make sure the membership knows why you are resigning.
6. Leave the club if necessary.
