I got an email this morning from Canon USA about a one day deal on SL-1 kit. $300 for a refurb SL-1, 18-55 STM and 75-300 lenses. Like I need another camera. But, the price was too good to pass up. Deal was only good today and tomorrow. I have an SL-1 and have bought others for my other kids. Adorama has the same on sale, but new, for $999 after rebates.

I succumbed today to a refurbed Nikon P600 for $199 as a backup to my D7200. I gave my refurbed Canon SX-50 to a friend in Kenya this week when her camera died. It was too weird going from Nikon to Canon and back again. The SX-50 is a great camera, but I had a dysfunctional family going. I think it'll be more intuitive to have a Nikon superzoom and a backup. Sad it doesn't shoot RAW, everything else is cool. Now, if that brown truck would hurry up before I have another GAS attack!

You could have put those $300 towards a nice trip with many promising photo opportunities. Perhaps it would be wise to opt out of emails from Canon from now on, to avoid being lured by anymore of their "one day only" camera sales.

Or spend the dollars on a romantic dinner for your spouse, or give it as a present to a friend or relative, or resell the gear on Ebay for $100 profit, or have fun with your new equipment...whatever gives you the biggest smile for your buck.

We like our gear and we like to buy it and use it. New term GAS RIF was fantastic

Luckily I have the funds that I can do what I want when I want to do it. Believe me, if I did not have a use for the camera I would not have gotten it. In this case it is part of my duplicating systems at my two homes so I do not have to cart a lot of gear with me when I travel from place to place.

I TRIED to buy one of these bargain kits early today. It was SOLD OUT. However, I did get a second SL! body + the 18-55 STM lens for $280.

I bought the SL1 as a lighter alternative to mt T3i. For MY purposes, the SL1 turns out to be a much better camera - especially since it autofocuses during video (the T3i does NOT).

Would someone kindly educate me, what does "GAS" mean? I'm sure it applies to me in more ways than one!

Arthur
