Not looking through the viewfinder

I just went out a little while ago with my new 24-120 f4 Nikkor lens on my D700 to try it out. I took these four pictures of the little stream (drainage ditch really) in my back yard. It was getting a little late in the day so the sun is fairly low. I held the camera down into the stream just off the water and took these without looking through the viewfinder. They are all at 24mm. I thought they were kind of fun, so I thought I would share them with you all. I reduced them to 96 dpi and stored the original. Minor adjustments made in Nikon Capture NX2. Hope you enjoy them. :)

Nice series. Your experiment came out well. My favorite is the first one - nice composition.

Thanks for commenting. I like the first one the best too, but more because of the lighting and reflections. Composition is mostly "luck" when you aren't looking through the viewfinder. ;) I did not crop any of these.

Thanks for leaving a comment! :) This was the goofing around part of the new lens testing. I think I'm going to like this lens though.

The first one is really good! I've done this with trees. Put the camera against the trunk, point it upward and shoot. You'll be surprised at what you get.

Nice series. I like the first one, and there's something about the third one....I think perhaps the light hitting the bank on the far right draws your eye into the picture. Enjoy the new lens.

Thank you amyinsparta! I did the tree thing as well, just didn't post it. :)

Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment twhrider. :)
I agree about the third one, it's also better in the download.
I hope to get out before to long so I can enjoy the new lens. ;)

I like #3 for the quality of the light. It really brings out the colors nicely.

Thanks Andrea I appreciate it! :)
I'm thinking of fiddling with it in Capture NX2 to see what I can do to it to make it more interesting. I will re-post it if I like how it comes out. :)

 Yes I do, but I will describe why that wouldn't have worked on the first two. I have a little bridge I built that goes over the stream so I can mow on the other side. I was lying on my stomach with my arm hanging down over the side, camera in hand. So even if the display had been on I would have had to be under the bridge to see it. :) I did one facing each direction from the bridge.

Thanks for looking Joe. :)
