Well, she might because she probably looks about the same! This is an adult Wood Stork sitting on the top of a fairly tall tree along the river. I believe there is a nesting pair because another appeared to be sitting nearby and it did not move around.

I agree the Wood Stork has got to be one the ugliest birds in the world. However your photos of it are super

Thank you very much. They don't look bad from a distance but close up is pretty bad!

The problem with a good photographer taking a photo of an ugly bird, Carol, is that it shows just how UGLY it really is. Aren't there any pretty birds in your neighborhood?

Thank you Phil. I like the first shot best but like that you can see the legs in the other shot.

Bob, I promise there are some pretty ones! Next post should be the pretty ones from the same outing. This time of year we see a big increase in the variety of birds.

Thank you for the nice comment Sylvia. The stork would be pleased - unattractive sounds a lot better than ugly!

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I think there is uglier. Check out this visitor to my apartment balcony in Washington, DC. Actually there was a pair of them that hung around for several days. I suspect there were lots of rats around somewhere for food (in DC? Really?? Between the White House and the Capital, you say???)
