Forest of Tears, Haiga

A tribute to those who have dealt with and are dealing with breast cancer. It's a terrible feeling which I have experienced first hand as I was diagnosed with it at age 21. We thought it might have been the result of being struck violently in that area by a girl school yard bully wielding a ball bat when I was in 6th grade. If you know my history you can imagine the reason she was upset with me.

Beautiful piece of work Jim. The scene itself is a great shot without the additions.
The added pieces wonderfully portray your sentiment.
One tiny point is that the girl appears to lack feet.
Love it Mr Hill

Again this is a really nice image without the girl and the poem. Put them together and it becomes a touching tribute for anyone struggling with the disease.

Hi Billy, You up early ain't ya?

The feet are on the other side of the root and she had on those god awful above the ankle brown things. Can't walk around that part of the forest w/out foot protection. Look around for some bare footsies but couldn't find any on the fly.

Thanks for your kindly comments.

Thanks Erich,

It's a little late but better late than not at all.

For a haiga to be effective, it's total effect must be greater than that of the sum of its parts. This is, indeed, an effective haiga!

One to learn from.

Thanks Dave, And thanks for bringing this form to our attention. I hadn't any idea that a haiku could be connected to a photograph to form a haiga. However, it's not as easy as it looks. Struggled with this one for a long, long time.

We all have scars, some more visible than others.

Thank you for sharing this deeply personal message. S-

Thanks Steve. In the 1950's a diagnosis like this was usually a death sentence. We have come a long way but not quite there yet.

Beautiful! The scene is gorgeous. I like the symbolism of the hidden feet and no face in the reflection.

(It was a shock to read about your experience, Jim. I'm glad you are with us!!!)

Thanks Edie, Your comments are appreciated. The setting is in the Cash River Wetlands of Southern Illinois' Shawnee National Forest.
