Milky Way

Some my first attempts to photograph the Milky Way. I know it's not the best time of year to see it. We went to the Hiwassee Refuge to maximize the darkness and minimize the ambient light.

Nikon D810 with Nikor VRII 24-120

1. Metor? The Taurid meteor show is still going on, didn't look like an airplane. F/4 25 sec Iso 500

Picture #1 looks like a satellite. Meteors don't keep the same brightness and thickness over the range of observation. Planes have flashing lights and would show. This is just a straight line like a satellite would show.

I tried playing with your first picture a bit. Wanted to see if I could knock down the noise and add more yellow to neutralize the blue. But, with the JPEG version of the file, I was unable to totally remove the noise, but I was able to neutralize the blue.

Your lens is doing a good job. The stars are not showing much distortion. You have good focus.

Nice job!

What fun, Dianne! I had wondered what you've been up to :) #2 with the bare trees is appealing for me as it helps me understand the perspective and expansive view of your shot.

I would have amply opportunity here for night photos, but can't stay awake long enough to go out :)

I like #2 the best, as it shows perspective to the immense size of our galaxy.

Well done
Matthew

Beautiful job Sleepy. I do think you actually got a satellite in #1.
We get them all the time in Astro Photos.
Hope to see more of your work here.
