Tomorrow's train

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are folks interested in seeing how we will travel tomorrow?
Well, science is getting there. Whether you or I will see this body of
accomplishment in our day, remains to be seen. It’s not that far away. It’s pretty nifty.
Enjoy.

The first class section looks nice but I didn't see the queues at the TSA checkpoints.

Looks like a flashback to a 1960's Popular Mechanics magazine. The gross inefficiency of elevating a huge vehicle with airflow would be impractical - although the concept of trying to reduce friction inefficiency is valid. The technology being developed now is maglev - magnetic levitation of the train above the tracks for a very smooth, very fast ride. A system like this has been installed in Japan and the train has reached 375 MPH! The US is studying putting a maglev train between DC and Baltimore - the trip would take 15 minutes.

Looks good in theory but a 30 mph cross wind would toss it around like a cheap kite!

Looks cool, but impractical due to its width. Imagine all the places where train tracks run through narrow areas between roads and buildings. The number of buildings that would need to be demolished to make room for a train of this size would probably make this kind of idea impractical if not impossible.

I'm pretty sure the deflector shields would deal with the winds with no problem.
