I have a unique situation. My partner and I shot a wedding last week She used a Cannon and I used my Nikon. I want to edit and rename each image and put them in chronological order using both sets of images. I can just manually rename each image but we have close to 800 images..Any ideas on how to do this?
What kind of ammo were you using in your cannon? You cold use your
caliber size for your cannon files.

Simple put all your files in a single folder, have LR or whatever sort them by digitizing date (EXIF) then rename everything using whatever program.
It would be much easier not to rename them but use whatever program you are using to simply sort by the EXIF data: 'Digitized date'.
Oh, that is far from a 'unique situation'.

I use a program called Downloader Pro. It allows me to rename files on download. It's customizable and can include useful things in the file name such as camera model, camera serial number, date, time (from the EXIF data), and a job code (i.e. a text string describing the shoot).
If this were my problem I would probably set it up to rename the files something like "(job code) (date) (time) (camera model) (index number)" where (job code) would be something like "Wedding XXXX". Those file names would sort chronologically and would still be identifiable by which camera was used.
DP cost me $30 several years ago and it was a very useful investment in my opinion. It automates file renaming and can even automate file storage by generating folders with appropriate names. I use it for everything now. And all my files have meaningful names so I can search for things outside of Lightroom (my primary image management tool).
I bought this program several years ago, so there are probably many other programs that do similar things. Lightroom can rename files on import, but DP does it with less input on my part so I prefer that way of renaming.

Bad dog! No biscuit ! (but funny)
In Lightroom, select all of the images you need to change, hit the F2 button and then use any of the many options for renaming. After that, it is easy to sort them by capture time.

Um, no. Cull the files and get rid of the crap. Then put all of the files in a folder as previously mentioned, sort by capture time, also mentioned, then rename the lot as the last step. Quite easy to do.

That's what I do for some events. We may have sometimes up to three photographers.
After the chaff is culled, they get merged, sorted by time and re-named. It's interesting to see the chronological order of things. Makes sorting for the web and slide shows I do really easy.
Two great programs I use are PhotoMechanic and ACDSee.
PhotoMechanic is as bullet-proof as it gets. It doesn't do everything, (pretty much a downloading, naming and sorting program), but what it does do it does well and blazingly fast. Almost instantaneous previews of raw files.

On strike.
I edited some things in my profile and Max went on a rampage. Says I'm not paying him enough and I failed to get a release before I posted his photo. He's suing me now.

A vigorous back scratching usually works but he's not that easy.
I got him his own copy of
PhotoMechanic.
Yes, it's $150 but worth every penny at some of the events we cover.
(His fur is soooo soft!)

And
THAT was a nice tie back to the op topic.
