I receintly posted this image in the Photo Gallery, in both color and B&W. I am not experienced in converting color to B&W, and Linda From Maine suggested that I post it here for people to play with.
It was also suggested that it be cropped above the rust mark on the foreground rock, which does look better.
If you are interested, have fun!
I'd be more interested if you would post this again with "save original"checked so there would be more of an image to work with.

OK, I got hooked. I opened up the shadows with shadow/highlight control, converted to B&W darkening red to help with the rust stain.
Then I used the Levels control to set the overall tone. I darkened the mid tones a little.
I liked the rock in the foreground so I cloned in some texture from another part of the rock and then burned the rock a little.
I'm sure you will get numerous other attempts.

I also mentioned the need to click "store original" LOL. A thumbnail is a tough one to work with, especially in b&w. Please be sure your image is at least 1 mb to see best results from others' pp. I look forward to working with the image on Weds. THANKS!

I'm sorry, I thought I had checked it. Here it is again!

NOW IT DUPLICATED IT!!!
Im beginning to like it in colour lol
If it's not showing a downloadable version, it's because your file is too small. Try posting the original...if you haven't gotten too frustrated with the whole process. Sorry for the pain :|
If you did post the original, then your device is automatically re-sizing on upload. I see that you have downloadable files in the below topic, so it's probably not that you shot this image at low res.

Having done this I'm not sure if it's any better than the colour version.

http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-334928-1.htmlOK, one last try. I shot it in RAW, at 20+MP., but it converts to jpg upon export. So, here is the whole darn thing. Hopefully, it didn't get reduced along the way.
:?: :?:

Thanks so much!
First, I adjusted levels in the color image, for whiter whites + more detail in the dark shadow areas.
Using that adjusted image, I did one of the Nik Silver Efex pre-sets called high structure, and then, rather than cropping, I cloned that bit in foreground rock so it was more uniform.
I did another levels adjustment for more contrast, but now looking back at the psd file (I used Photoshop Elements 13, with layers), it might be better without. But I'm popping between two computers, so I'm just going to upload what I put on my thumb drive :)
Please keep in mind I am far from an expert pp'er + there are many ways you can go with this one, just depends on the mood and story you want to tell.

Thanks Linda, I like what you have done. It's fun to play with photos and see everyone else's interpretation.
Billy's attempt using Nik Silver Efex
White balance, water edit, and desaturated.

Added a difference layer at 70% opacity (maintains a slight hint of color), a luminosity layer at 100% opacity, and a levels layer for some mid-range lighting adjustment
