I have been photographing Spoonbills for years and today I saw one that stunned me. I have never seen one this deep color nor have I ever seen those marks on his cheek. These photos were not enhanced in any way, except for cropping. I guess you can teach an old Dog new things because I learned something new about one of my favorite birds!!

I think this is the breeding plumage and markings. I've also heard the more vivid colors depend on what they eat.

OK Molly, I'm officially jealous! Great shots again! Especially love the saturated color of your subjects.

Here is another. If anyone could take out the bird in the foreground, I would appreciate it.

I wish he would share with his friends because I love the colors! I have seen them with a much bluer bill, but never this mark during breeding season.

Thank you so much. The other Spoonbills around him almost looked white compared to him.

You will be amazed when you see all of the different birds where I'm taking you. I can't wait to see what you post from this trip! This boy was a late arriver and stunned me. You wanted photos of Spoonbills, and I promise you, you are gonna have them later today. Along with Purple Gallinules , Swallow Tail Kites, etc... See you later!!
