On1 Photo 10

Does anyone have experience using On1 Photo 10? I bought Perfect Resize 9 a little while back and it seems to do a pretty good job. I also got Perfect Effects 9 free but I haven't done much with it. Both are installed as plugins in my copy of CS6. My question relates to an offer for On1 Photo 10 for $89 with a couple of bonus items thrown in (On1 Photo 10 Training and Landscape Pro Preset Pack). As I understand it, Photo 10 can operate as a standalone program or as a plugin for Photoshop. Is anyone using Photo 10 as a meaningful addition to Photoshop CS6 or is this Photo 10 package just redundant software to spend money on?

I currently use Portrait Professional from Anthropics and I'm pretty happy with the results once I learned to limit some things. Photo 10 appears to include a Portrait module that appears to do at least some of what Portrait Pro does.

Photo 10 has Enhance 10 which looks to me like it does what you normally do in Camera Raw.

Photo 10 Browse 10 is a module for organizing and pre-editing images. I'm not sure it does this better than Bridge.

I guess I'm looking for someone to tell me that, if I have CS6 and a couple of plugins mentioned above, I don't need Photo 10 because it is pretty much redundant...GAS is what I really have a touch of.

I just bought On1 Photo 10 at $89.99 for the upgrade (including 5 licenses, 3 of which I have already shared) and love it. It now acts as a Filter from PS, rather than an Automation Tool under the File menu. But to be honest, the only program I use consistently is the Perfect Effects. That being said, the B&W and Photo Resize functions have all been incorporated into the Effects interface. If you want to see what the program can do for B&W, please go here: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-348615-1.html

Thanks for your reply. I'm beginning to think more positively about taking advantage of the offer based on your comments. I like the idea that it can be accessed as a filter now. Much handier. Really nice B&W rendering on that link. Thanks for sharing that.

On1 Layers is a nice feature in the suite,

On1 uses color range to make selections which is quick in many situations such as dropping in another sky. The refine brush and chisel tool work well.

On1, Mcphun, NIK. Topaz etc. offer ease of use with creative presets and filters. For heavy lifting, Photoshop is king.

I have used On1 and really like it's features. Also there are a ton of training videos and instructions on the various capabilities.
I am no expert with the suite by any means but can highly recommend a serious look at adding it to your workflow.

First I will state, I usually love Bobs work and at the Cclub won award status using a tutorial on cracked glass that he shared. I am a Bob Fan Club member... That being said...

On the link, http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-348615-1.html some one jumped in and said " ... WOW! Beautiful tonal range with detail just about everywhere." Perhaps I should give a try, but based on this example, Topaz B&W2 is superior.

Yes, everywhere except in the photo, I see black, almost black and white!!! Hardly what I would call great tonal variations. (well perhaps too harsh, but sounds decisive) At times I feel like a Wolf outnumbered by Sheeple how have bobble heads the nod yes. I tell Bob, what-is, IMO, the honest comment ... mostly good... but if not, then I do not go the UHH Smilin' Ed McConnell route and act like Midnight the cat who meows "Nice" when ask an opinion.

Now, Bob, eat an honest pill and swallow the $89 program and check out Topaz B&W2 (for $60)** and give us a comparison for that Cottage in the referenced UHH thread. Be careful Bob, JerryC is driving a new hot truck and is not use to the kick under to hood compared to that cube he was driving. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-348171-1.html

I have had On1 since 7or 7.5 and been upgrading since but this is the last time as with this upgrade it's been a nightmare. You send an email to the support team and all you get back is "We are very busy" 3 or 4 days later you maybe get a reply to read their support page. I've asked them 2 about the upgrade that i can have sent and no reply on that at all and the person has not received it at all. They are sending emails saying he can upgrade for 89.99. The program downloaded ,installed and everything was suppose to be A OK. Opened first time, second time had to reput my license ,third time it just showed a completely empty white box with a heading saying recovery photo album and a spinning wheel. If I click on it ,my computer will lock up .Deleted the program 3 times and re-installed it and it still doing the same thing. And no help from On!. Asked twice to be reimbursed and not even a email that they had receive it. I guess I'm going to be using topaz with photoshop and keep On One 9.5 for the resizing

I have not been all that impressed with 10, as of now I don't think I'm going to upgrade will just keep 9.5, I really haven't used it in a long time now anyway.

This program does not run well on some computers, it is very slow, make sure you download it and try it first before you buy.

And on some it doesn't work at all. And it's not because of the computer. My performance is at an average of 8.3 .That should be good enough to at least open it ,but it doesn't.

No argument from me, I have a friend that can open it, but that's about as far as he can get, It runs okay on mine but slow, only about 65% of the speed it should be, all my other programs are lighting fast.

It's getting on to over a week and no real replys from On1 support except to read there fixes. It's come to the point that I'm about ready to call my card company for repayment. If a customer has an issue with someone the card company will reimburse you and they will collect from whoever they made the payment to. I've asked twice and they just don't bother to answer. I think Matt should probably spend less time sending out promos and such and take care of business. I,ve gone on the net and found out that they are having a lot of flack on this release. A lot of dissatisfied customers.

I also have a fast i7 PC with large SSD and 4tb of storage. ON1 Photo 10 runs very slowly, almost but not quite unusable. My support query was hopeless. I would not recommend this as a purchase. Additionally I agree with an earlier post in this thread regarding TOPAZ BW2. Its a great plugin and in some cases better then the now free NIK effort. However I have found that if you have and develop your skills in Photoshop then you can achieve the same result (more or less).
