It's not necessarily what's in front of the camera but rather who's behind the camera.

I saw this last week.
Great article, everyone should read it!
It should get people away from the "what camera settings should I use" question for a while and concentrate on concept.

An interesting insight for sure. Would have liked time to compare the images as shot by each photographer in more detail.

This will create many opinion on perspective but none on the folks behavior after learning this was an average bald bloke.

THAT to me is way more interesting.

That's why before I photograph anyone, I meet with them over a coffee, etc. and let them talk about themselves. I get an idea as to how they present themselves. I then attempt to capture that which they have inside, portrayed through their positioning and expression when I do photograph them.

That's a great idea. Do you charge for that?

A portrait photographer has to be a psychologist before anything else.

If, as in this clip, a photographer reacts to outside influence he is not doing his job, sorry.

That is why I find the end most interesting. See how ill at ease these 'photographers' are.

Yeah, the price of the cup of coffee.

However, before I agree to meet, we've already had the commitment to do the photo session, and a deposit has been made on the session.

When it comes time to actually do the photo session, I'll bring up stuff we chatted about over coffee. This will take the person's mind off posing, cameras, lights, etc. so to speak. It puts them in a much more relaxed frame of mind.

I hate photo sessions that come off like a doctor's office visit.
